The hiking part of the group is for hikers over 55 who haven't given up on their love of hiking and being in nature despite their age or level of physical conditioning. People lose 1% lung capacity from age 25 on. At age 55, hikers have 30% less lung capacity. To compensate for the breathing loss, this group will be slow on the uphill and moderate pace on the level and down hill.
Hike Ratings: Easy, Moderate, Strenuous. The pace for all hikes will be the same. Harder hikes have rougher footing (rocks & tree roots), more elevation gain and mileage. We start as a group, we hike as a group and we end as a group. There are four other hiking meetup groups if you want a faster pace or more challenging hikes. (NY Outdoor & More, The Westchester Hiking meetup group, Hike Putnam and beyond, Hudson Valley Fitness & Social). Our goal is to stay fit while enjoying the camarederie of hikers who have similar skills and goals. This is a dog free hiking group.
The arts & entertainment part of the group is for people of any age who enjoy plays, live music, dances, open mic music and Jacob Burns films. Please have a full face picture on your profile so we can recognize you when you show up for an event.
