What we're about

This is a free-form group of people who enjoy live hand drumming and percussion. Our sessions include a wide range of non-amplified instruments.

In addition to drumming, we especially like to have dancers, chanters, and anyone else who is moved by the spirit of percussion.

Yorktown for Justice (www.yorktownforjustice.org) has again asked Westchester Spirited Drumming to play their annual Yorktown NY Pride rally/festival/celebration (see attached flyer). This will be our second year there.

Let's bring our WSD Spirited Drumming to augment and intensify the rally and march!

We’re in particular need of a dunun player with their own set of drums for this event.

Bring your spirit, drums and percussion pieces, water, and a portable chair or stool if desired.

There will be a 1:00 PM rally and march at Yorktown Town Hall, 363 Underhill Avenue, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598; those with portable instruments are welcome to march and drum.

The celebration at United Methodist Church is a two-minute drive from town hall. (Can't walk there, however, due to safety concerns for groups of pedestrians on this major roadway.)

Please assemble at UMC by 2:45 PM at the latest, so we’ll be in place and ready to start drumming by 3:00 PM. The celebration in the church yard will run from 3:00-6:00 PM.

This outdoor event will be held rain or shine; organizers will attempt to procure a large tent in the event of rain.

Participants are invited to stay for a 7:00 PM after-party at the Yorktown Grille, located at 347 Downing Drive, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.

Please note: WSD co-organizer Rick Taylor is currently “iffy” about his ability to attend.

Longtime WSD member and excellent drummer Nanette Garcia has stepped up and graciously offered to lead the drumming with WSD organizer Jeff Poritzky, for which we are very grateful!
