UPDATE 11/22: Time: Meet 8 a.m. Finish time - by 11:00

Place: South end of Garrison train station. Directions: Please scroll to the bottom this event post. Train riders pleas make sure of the train schedule as its a holiday!

Note: Well behaved kids are wecome as are well behaved dogs on leashes. Please indicate in your rsvp if you are bringing a dog so others know in advance. thank you!

Distance: Approx 3 miles total. Pace: We won't be racing through the woods. Time will be taken both on the trail and at our break point on the water.

Terrain: This is an easy one. Through woods, slight hills, and then close to the water.

Last two years we hiked through the woods and then on the Hudson in NJ - Palisades Park. This year I've picked a very easy, short hike through woods, past some ruins, then on the Hudson in NY - Hudson Highlands State Park in Putnam County. Our break point is perfect and right on the water. Bring your cameras!

I send out an email the night before with my cell phone # and any last minute news. Please make sure to program me in your cell phone.

There is no fee for this hike - my thanks to you. But, Please check the list below and bring something to donate to Midnight Run. All info is below including a website link. If you need a reciept for tax purposes let me know at the hike and I wll get one for you. If you can't make the hike but would like to donate to Midnight Run, please use the link to their website in the event post.

Please take a moment now to update your rsvp to YES or NO. I look forward to seeing you all on Thanksgiving morning and I hope you find this trail as tranquil and uplifting as I do.

Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving smile

p.s. no sunrise this year. maybe next year or another hike.

Hi Everyone,

This is the letter I posted to you all last year.. and the year before - but the first paragraph is still apropo - so I'll leave it as is...

This has been a tough year for me in many ways, but I am thankful and very blessed. For my daughter, my friends, for this group and all of you who have joined, have come out and those who have emailed me or called and offered support and prayers. There are so many things to be thankful for even in tough times, simple things that we may not even think of.. like warm clothes and a bed, food and a safe place to stay..

This year, once again, on Thanksgiving I'd like to do a little something different

Please meet me for a short hike in the morning - we'll be done by 11 a.m. so you can get on the road to relatives or finish up the cooking before they get to your house!

Kids are wecome, dogs on leashes are welcome.

There will be no meetup fee for this hike - thats my thanks to you..

In lieu of my big $2.oo normal meetup fee I ask that you bring one (or more, if you can) items from this list:

What is Midnight Run?

Midnight Run is a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless.

In over 900 relief missions per year, Midnight Run volunteers from churches, synagogues, schools and other civic groups distribute food, clothing, blankets and personal care items to the homeless poor on the streets of New York City. The late-night relief efforts create a forum for trust, sharing, understanding and affection. That human exchange, rather than the exchange of goods, is the essence of the Midnight Run mission. Midnight Run is not a solution to homelessness. Our goal is to forge a bond between housed and homeless people by establishing a foundation of sharing and caring from which solutions may evolve. Through Midnight Run, volunteers come to see the homeless as real people, not a commodity. And homeless men and women learn that many mainstream adults and teenagers have commitments and concerns that go beyond their own lives and families. http://midnightrun.or...

I hope to see you all there smile

with thanks,

What a great group of folks! We had a wonderful pre-Thanksgiving dinner stomp along the Hudson. Afterward, Steve & I scouted the area and stopped off at the little store in Garrison - best pies in the Hudson Valley! We plan on doing more hiking in the area. Looking forward to meeting up with this group again.
