MBA Book Club: How Will You Measure Your Life
Are you ready to energize your summer with some professional business networking as well as exceptional leadership learning plus have some fun? Join us for the WMU MBA Book Club Meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at the WMU Beltline location!
This networking opportunity offers the perfect intersection of an enjoyable and information-rich activity (reading) that you are likely to enjoy, plus professional networking about true-to-life business world scenarios linked to the book you have just read. Students and alumni indicate that they leave the one hour book club meetings “with a greater understanding of who I want to be as a leader and how other people view important aspects of leadership.”
As you already know, great books and the information found within them are an important component of Western Michigan University’s MBA program; they are also a big part of lifelong learning. WMU’s MBA Book Club provides an opportunity for us to jointly read, consider, and discuss a book and how it can help us better lead within our organizations.
For June 12th, read Read How Will You Measure Your Life? By Clayton M. Christensen, James Allworth, and Karen Dillon
If you run out of time to read the book, do not hesitate to join us anyway! We have an informal group that has a lot of fun probing into the real-life scenarios and questions raised within the books we read (bring your ideas and thoughts about the topic). Questions related to the book will be posted at: http://www.meetup.com/Western-Michigan-University-Alumni-GR/events/40675442/ as we get closer to the MBA Book Club date.
This 240 page book is an insightful read about the business view of life. The total time invested in preparation is short, as it should be for the Summer!
The fun part (6:00 to 7:00 p.m.):
- Review book premise.
- Discuss topic and how it is, has, or will influence you personally
- What "Idea for Action" (if any) will you set as a goal, and why?
- Does the book concept resonate?
The real fun part:
- Happy Hour after Meetup – we’ll head to Bar Louie at 7:00 p.m. for more networking and discussion

Questions to be provided as we near the MeetUp date.
From the world’s leading thinker on innovation and New York Times bestselling author of The Innovator’s Dilemma, Clayton M. Christensen, comes an unconventional book of inspiration and wisdom for achieving a fulfilling life. Christensen’s The Innovator’s Dilemma, notably the only business book that Apple’s Steve Jobs said “deeply influenced” him, is widely recognized as one of the most significant business books ever published. Now, in the tradition of Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture and Anna Quindlen’s A Short Guide to a Happy Life, Christensen’s How Will You Measure Your Life is with a book of lucid observations and penetrating insights designed to help any reader—student or teacher, mid-career professional or retiree, parent or child—forge their own paths to fulfillment.
