Where on the Western Slope do you live? how long have you been there? Where did you come here from? How did you learn about the WSA group and why did you join? Do you plan to be an "Active" member or is WSA just one more web registration for you?

I moved to Grand Junction, CO two years ago from Meeker, CO where I lived for 22 years. I am active in kayaking, Pickleball and downhill skiing.

How and about what time in life did you get started with outdoor recreation? What are a few of your favorite outdoor activities?

I have been an active hunter, fisherman, river runner and outdoor person my entire life and have probably spent an average of 3 days a week in the outdoors. Currently I kayak, downhill ski, play Pickleball every day and hunt birds in season.

What is the most challenging hike, bike, backpack, 14er, canyoneering, ski/snowshoe, river trip or other outing you've ever done? How or why was that; and, would you do that or something similar again?

I hunted Mountain Goats by myself at over 12K feet with a bow. Living and climbing with the goats for a week in my 50's was an interesting adventure I will never be able to repeat. When I was young I also spent a week with my wife hunting grouse on High Island in Lake Michigan. We waded ashore from a Commercial fishing boat that we hired to take us out there and pick us up.

Where is the most scenic place you have ever slept in a tent, walked or biked on a trail or travelled by paddle or oar down a river?

Probably below Flaming Gorge dam by canoe or the San Raphael by kayak. I would also have to add the Flattops Wilderness where I used to back pack and camp when I lived in Meeker.

After you've been on a few events with us, what kind of event might you be willing to to initiate and share with fellow WSA adventurers? Organize a hike? road or mtn bike ride? an evening on the river? a ski or snowshoe on Grand Mesa? Or... ?

Kayak trips.

Introduction

My name is Jim Mense and I spend most of my free time these days either kayaking, skiing or Pickleball. An outdoorsman all my life, I have always loved competition: skeet, archery, bicycle racing, triathlons, marathons, or now, PICKLEBALL!
