BETTY PAGE REVEALS ALL @ Nuart, Friday, 11/29, 7:30

Director Mark Mori In Person and Special Costume Contest, too!

In Academy Award nominee Mark Mori’s alluring documentary, the real Bettie Page emerges from the veil of myth and rumor via audio interviews taped a decade prior to her death in 2008. With earthy, razor sharp wit, Bettie tells her life story—from humble beginnings as one of six children in an impoverished southern family, to high school salutatorian, to scandalous 50s pin-up model, to shocking retirement in 1957 at the peak of her modeling career. Sharing rare details about her short-lived first marriage and many torrid affairs, this keen insider’s glimpse follows Bettie through decades of broken marriages, born-again Christianity, and bouts of mental illness, before her ultimate return to the public eye in the early 90’s, unaware of her cult status. Ranked by Forbes in 2012 as one of the top ten posthumous celebrity earners, Bettie and her enduring legacy continue to flourish.

Tickets: General Admission available at Landmark's Website. Because of the director's presence, and the burlesque performance, this show will sell out.

I really enjoyed this movie and the burlesque show beforehand. I wonder how many hours the director spent talking with her.

She was truly ahead of her time and a classy lady. The pinup photos seemed so tame now but she definitely had something and the camera loved her. What a life! I wish we could have seen her and not just heard her voice but then I guess she will always be remembered as the pin up Betty Page.
Interesting to learn that the government or some Senate committee considered it porn and was hell bent on closing down the people she worked for. Also interesting to compare with nowadays where someone of her popularity would have an agent , a lawyer and so on and know what they were worth. She just worked for the paycheck and that was that.

Too bad she had such poor taste in men although the last husband seemed okay.

The theatre was great. I did not know they still had movie theatres like that in LA or should I say theater.

I had no idea what to expect and little of the pin-up world in the 50s, but wow what a beautiful woman who seemingly had a relationship with the camera that transcended the world of leering camera guys to become an icon and a meaningful symbol for less repressed generations. The movie was a work of love.

The best presentation I've ever seen at the new art! The burlesque show before the movie was was sexy and fun, the look-alike contest was MC'd by the least charismatic host I've ever seen, and the movie lived up to its title. Based almost entirely on an oral interview with Betty Page herself, supplemented with talking head interviews with friends, former lovers, and family, this labor of love managed to find so much authentic footage that it was like a trip through time.A truly remarkable woman, genuinely beloved, was brought vividly to life.

Great, Kay. I guess you won't see this, so I'm going to call the restaurant and make it 7 -- Lindsie will be able to be there.

Hi Jill, Marie, Linda - I made a reservation at Bar Hayama at 5:30 pm for 6 (three of you, plus Estelle and me) under "Kay". They will have inside table ready right next to the fire pit. They have a smaller fire pit inside... kind of cool. Come in and ask for Kay's table. Bar Hayama is located at 1803 Sawtelle. You can park your car once since the restaurant is about 5 minutes walk from the theater. I won't have an internet access until 5:30 pm, so won't be able to add any more people to our table.

Great--so there are four of us at the moment. Please come if you want a bite to eat before the movie. It sounds like they'll let us shift to a larger table if more people arrive.

Hey Kay and Jill, think I'll join you as long as I don't see any turkey on my plate. Restaurant sounds interesting!

    November 29, 2013

Hi Kay, let's do it. Meet you there at 5:30. Anyone who wants feel free to come. We'll get a table for however many people are there.

Hi Jill, I will be carpooling with Estelle. We will probably get to the restaurant little before 5:30 pm. I usually love to sit by the firepit, but more than likely we will get us a table inside tomorrow because it will be a chilly night. Please look for us sitting inside. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Does anyone want to meet at a nearby restaurant at 5:30, and get to the Nuart at 7 p.m.? There are some nice little Japanese places in the immediate area. Let me know, and let me know any suggestions for restaurants, and I'll do the research. Hope you don't mind, Lindsie--this is very unofficial!

Love to go to "Bar Hayama". At 5:30 pm, we won't need a reservation. I am a regular there :) Great ambiance with big fire pit and yummy foods. Few minutes walk from/to the theater. It's located on Sawtelle. Let me know by early AM (before 11 am) tomorrow. I will be out and about after 11 am...
