New Meetup: 9 @ The Landmark, Monday, 9/14, 7:30 (?)

Announcing a new Meetup for Los Angeles Film Enthusiasts!

What: 9 @ The Landmark, Monday, 9/14, 7:30 (?)

When: September 14,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
The Landmark
10850 W Pico Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90064
[masked]

9. A single digit. That's it. An obvious gimmick. Animated. Saved some big bucks there. About some borderline creepy but ultimately cute doll-like creatures (nine of them, actually) who inhabit a post-apocalyptic earth ruled by some really ugly and unpleasant machines (PLEASE!!!). Opening on 9/9/09, too...what self respecting film enthusiast would fall for such an obvious marketing ploy, anyway?

Well, after considering the cast: Jennifer Connelly, Crispin Glover, Martin Landau, Christopher Plummer, John C. Reilly, Elijah Wood (why do I trust these people?); and watching the trailer (Wow! Some seriously great visuals!), I faced the embarrassing fact that they had me in their clutches once again. "Get your hands off me, you damned, dirty studio flacks!" I screamed, Charlton Hestonly, rattling the bars of the 21st Century consumerist cage that they had me in...but it was no use. So here it is. If it turns out to be a bomb, there's some consolation: it's only 79 minutes long...:)

Tickets aren't available yet, but I hope that I'll let you know when they are. I'll meet you all in the wine bar about half an hour before show time. Dinner before, maybe...conversation after--a certainty.

The Synopsis: When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world where all humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good. They must take the offensive if they are to survive, and they must discover why the machines want to destroy them in the first place. As they'll soon come to learn, the very future of civilization may depend on them.
