Announcing a new Meetup for Los Angeles Film Enthusiasts!

What: BAD LIEUTENANT @ The Landmark

When: November 22,[masked]:00 PM

Landmark Theatre
10850 West Pico at Westwood Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90064

Yes, I know it has Nicholas Cage in it, but he is broke now so maybe he put some of that angst into this role. Yes, I know that the director of the original is upset that this is more of a "reboot" than a remake, but it's directed by Werner Herzog. That means there's gonna be some dark shit in this movie. If you've seen the original, you know we're starting with some pretty dark material already.

Tickets are not on sale, yet, for the Landmark showing so I'll keep you posted. Movie will be around 4ish since the Landmark is so lame about making their tickets available in advance. Dinner afterwards, I'm thinking Sisley, which is family style Italian. Gyu-Kaku across the street is also nice Japanese self BBQ. It's very good. There's is also a Chinese place within walking distance that gets decent reviews and is cheap. Our group never goes there and I can assure you we've eaten at places that are a lot worse.

In Werner Herzog?s new film BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS, Nicolas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs ? while playing fast and loose with the law. He wields his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon. Complicating his tumultuous life is the prostitute he loves (played by Eva Mendes). Together they descend into their own world marked by desire, compulsion, and conscience. The result is a singular masterpiece of filmmaking: equally sad and manically humorous
