Let's study RoR together

2014 - PAIR UP AND LEARN TOGETHER

Come participate in our Mentor-Me program, where both experts and newbies come together to pair and level up. Find your mentor this year or become one - all are encouraged to join and help each other.

Pragmatic Programmers suggest learning a new language every year. We're Rubyists but Ruby and RoRails is always working within a spectrum of many other languages. We encourage you to come find your pair to work with.

If your brand new, start here:
1. TryRuby.org - An interactive application to see immediate results.
2. Rails for Zombies - When you just want to absorb.
3. Learn Ruby the Hard Way - Great place to start. ( a documented repo here )
4. Michael Hartl Ruby on Rails Tutorial - Another Great place to start.

For More Advanced:
Each week we'll be reading a chapter of a chosen book,
and or watching a screen cast, then working together to build an application.

Currently Watching:
Engineering Rich, Single Apps with Backbone + Rails
We'll be watching Episode 1 & 2 this week. Go ahead and watch the first two episodes, be prepared to discuss or comment. Tonite, March 27th, we'll be deciding what kind of application we'll be building.

Our Weekly Schedule:
TUESDAY: 6:30 PM - We're the group of laptops in the patio

We've been meeting at Pivotal Labs Weekly Pair Exchange / Extreme Roundtable but this meet up is on hiatus for the time being.  It will be returning shortly. Meanwhile we'll meet at Panera Bread until this meet up resumes.

WEDNESDAY: 7PM
Find us at Cynthia Kisner's Pasadena Rails Study Group in the IMSS Building, Caltech at 7pm. We've begun reading the book Crafting Rails 4 Applications.

THURSDAY: 6:30 PM - We're for the group of laptops in the patio
Find us at  Panera Bread every Thursday unless there's meeting conflict.
We meet at 6:30 - 10:pm in the patio or inside near the back of the restaurant.

If you are brandy new to Ruby or Ruby on Rails; we will help you get up to speed if you are willing to put in the time. If you are more advanced; become a mentor and help others learn while having a dedicated study night.

We're always looking for speakers, mentors and general help. Every other month, we'll plan a get together and showcase our work, discuss advanced topics and network with other programmers.

If you'd like to give a demo, or are willing to share with a lighting talk, reach out!
