What we're about
Westwood Co-op Folk Dancers welcomes you to join us in learning and practicing dances from around the world. We dance for fun rather than perfection and wear casual clothes and comfortable shoes. Folk dancing provides exercise as well as an enjoyable way to make new friends. You don’t need a partner nor do you need to make a commitment for multiple weeks, though the more you dance, of course, the more confident you will become.
We usually have 25-30 people dancing in the evening, from beginners to proficient. Sometimes new people find it easier to stand behind a line of dancers to watch what they do. Two dances are taught per night and repeated for that month, plus reviews of the two dances taught the previous month. Most of us are single but we also have couples. Many of our dances are easy to learn though some are more difficult. If we don’t care for a dance we may sit it out and chat with others. The music from each country is distinctive and beautiful, adding to our enjoyment, whether we’re dancing or not. All ages are welcome but we are mainly of retirement age. We meet on Thursdays and dance from 7:30 to 9:50. First time is free. After that there is a $4 donation.
We meet at Felicia Mahood Senior Center, 11338 Santa Monica Blvd., West LA at the NW corner of Corinth. Enter from the East side of the building (Corinth). Plenty of free parking is available at the end of the same block, south on Corinth.
