What we're about

The Wheeling Wheelmen Bicycle Club was founded by Phyllis Harmon. Its first meeting was on April 26, 1970, with over 100 members in attendance. Since that time, the club has grown to almost 300 men and women. It is currently serving the Northwest Chicagoland with organized rides, winter walks/hikes, social outings, informative bike-related meetings, bicycle advocacy, and a lot of friendship. For more info, see http://www.wheelmen.com/

We are a highly active group. During the riding season, between April and November, the Wheelmen group hosts seven rides every week, five rides in the morning and two rides after hours. During the off-season, the group has show-n-go events every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Each day has two events, one for biking and one for hiking. In addition, the group hosts public events such as the annual Harmon ride.

The purpose of this Meetup group is to help club members effectively coordinate
- show-n-go rides/hikes events during the off-season,
- one-off rides,
- group meetings and
- special events during the year.

The benefits for the members are:
- Determine who and how many are participating in an event and plan accordingly
- Get notification of an upcoming event.
- More effective coordination with other event participants (without relying on the antiquated group emailing or the highly limited group texting)

If you are not a Wheelmen member, you are welcome to join us on a couple of rides to get a feel for the group. If you like what you see, join the Wheelmen group to get access to
- turn-by-turn navigation via smartphone,
- extensive Wheelmen route library,
- numerous hosted events every week,
- and the best reason of all is the instant connection to 300+ bike enthusiasts from all walks of life.
