Urban Athletics: Central Park Hook-Up Hike

  • Jul 29, 2013 · 6:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

The other day a few long-time female meetup members and regular attendees of my events were lamenting their current singledom and half joked that I should do a hike for singles -- a hook-up hike. I laughed when told the idea but as I thought about it more that evening it made me go hmmm, they might have something here.

So, all my active singles join me for beginner-friendly evening hike/walk through Central Park where I promise you'll see a thing or two you didn't know exisited and maybe even meet someone that makes your heart flutter. I can't promise to match that popular dating site's 29 points of compatibility, but I can guarantee one -- that anyone you meet on this walk will at least have a love of being outside.

The Plan ...

We'll start our walk and mingle at the northeast corner of the park and wind our way through parts that are a little bit off the beaten path and not the regular "must see" sights for the typical park visitor. Some of the attractions we'll see in this area will be the Conservatory Garden, Harlem Meer, Fort Clinton, and the Blockhouse. Strolling southwesterly, we'll pass through the Great Hill and explore the sights of the Loch and the Ravine, the Pond, as well as the North Meadow.

We'll continue South past the Reservoir, through the Great Lawn, the Obelisk, Turtle Pond, and Belvedere Castle. Wandering through the wooded pathways of the Ramble, we'll pass over streams and under arches to explore the area around the Lake. After taking in the beauty of majestic Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, well make our way to the end point of the walk, The Pond at Central Park South.

A $2.00 cupid fee will be collected at this meetup, I had to bribe that little guy to make a special appearance at this event.

The Important Stuff  ...

Start: 6:45 PM

Meeting point: The entrance to the Central Park Conservatory Garden, located at the intersection of 5th Avenue and 105th Street. The nearest subway stops are the 2/3 trains at 110th Street and Lenox Avenue, or the 4/6 trains at 110th Street and Lexington Avenue.

Walk duration: Approximately 3 hours, this is going to be a casually-paced walk with quite a few stops

Distance: About 5 - 6 miles

Who can come?: Anyone! The only stipulation is that you must be single and unattached.

What to wear/bring: This is going to be an EASY walk but good walking shoes are a must, some of this trek will be on dirt paths and non-paved terrain. We'll stop at some point for a snack break so bring something to eat/drink, also a camera to take snaps of some of the beautiful scenery you'll see.

Rain cancels the walk.

Sorry, no guests allowed.

Such a great time Monday night with our fearless leader Kevin and all the wonderful people at these meetups! Kevin, if I hadn't walked into Central Park myself, I wouldn't have known I was there - especially that waterfall. Perfectly lovely. Looking forward to more.
