Visit a Castle and then have a good walk to the Old Downs Village

Atidore Castle is an interesting "Georgian Toy Fort" located in a stunning setting on the hills looking down to Greystones and Newtownmountkennedy. The castle is home to descendants of the family of Robert Emmet and incorporates a small museum of Emmet artefacts as well as having many other items of interest within.

Following our visit, we will walk back to the Old Downs Village and the Grove Bar, Willow Grove through some wonderful mixed forestry (only one short uphill slope on this walk!), follow an old pack horse trail through to the old Downs Village and relax with a cuppa in the Grove Bar, a charming country pub on the old N11.

Please note that there is a charge of €12 for this walk which includes entry to the castle.

I enjoyed the walk and the visit to Altidore Castle very much, would definitely go to something similar again.

Great visit to the castle with its interesting history, and we had an explanation of how driven shoots work, at my request. We then went up to the rifle range (hardly ever used) to find a full army exercise going on!! They were kind enough to let us through - no live guns being used. A very unusual walk today........!!

No, heading around the range, through the woods, looking down onto Greystones, down a packhorse trail, through the Old Downs Village and back to the Grove Bar. All down hill once we get into the woods!
