Masterpiece Museum: Smithsonian American Art Museum Editathon

The Smithsonian American Art Museum and Wikimedia DC present the "Masterpiece Museum" Edit-a-Thon. Drawing from their vast vaults of art, the caretakers of the Smithsonian American Art Museum have meticulously drawn forth canvas jewels to import into Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia articles. The museum directors and staff are excited about this project, and would love to have experienced Wikimedians and interested members of the public help in the effort!

In the morning we will first go over how to access the materials needed to provide citations for articles for the artwork we will be putting online. Then museum staff will give our group a tour which will end in lunch in the gorgeous Luce Center. Following the food, we will all begin importing images of the masterpieces and editing articles on them and their artists.

the information given for this event was excellent. i was able to communicate with staff at all points until it was beyond possibility for me to physically be there. but all was not lost as the editing could not possibly have been completed and my contact info was taken with acceptance and gratitude.
