Centering Prayer - Meditation - Contemplation

Friends of Peace is open to everyone interested in consenting to God through Silence. This regular Sunday afternoon service is an informal extension of Peace of Christ Church,  Friends of Peace meet at the Art Space, where artists display their creativity and vulnerability in many forms.

We practice the Christian tradition of Centering Prayer yet welcome all forms of meditation and contemplation. Join us for:

•  20 minutes of lessons from Contemplative Outreach,

• 20 minutes of discussion and

• 20 minutes of silence.

On Contemplative Prayer

We may think of prayer as thoughts or feelings expressed in words.  But this is only one expression. In the Christian tradition Contemplative Prayer is considered to be the pure gift of God. It is the opening of the mind and heart—our whole being—to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words and emotions.  Through grace we open our awareness to God whom we know by faith is within us, closer than breathing, closer than thinking, closer than choosing—closer than consciousness itself.
