Rancocas Forage

Rally at my yard to talk a while about wild edibles and forage strategies before we set off for one of the many state parks along the Rancocas Creek near Mount Holly, NJ. Who knows what we'll find? I have found Mulberries, wild cherries, wild blackberries in my expeditions... I recommend you bring a water source with you. Should be a great day out...If you are coming please let us know. I am [masked], and my cell is[masked]-9212. We start in the backyard of 157 Hickory Street, Mount Holly, NJ 08060, where I'll lay out the map of the day's forage and discuss itinerary.

Looking to do this again this Saturday, 7 September at 0900 in Mount Holly. Same details for starting point (my yard on Hickory Street, Mount Holly) and new park itinerary along Rancocas Creek... Will be an end of Summer wrap-up, as Autumn is on 22 September (already!). Hope you all can make it...

Thanks Joe!! What a great meetup! We got to see lots of wild and cultivated plants in Joe's yard, not to mention his very interesting fish pond. Then, we went to The Rancocas Nature Center - http://www.rancocasnaturecenter.org. Interesting, but a bit bug infested, so we proceeded down to the Delaware River where it joins the Rancocas in Delran - http://www.nynjtc.org/park/rancocas-state-park. That was beautiful! We walked on a pebble beach and saw a gorgeous view of a distant Philadelphia. Everyone else went home, but Cliff and I ate at Foysters Dockside a BYOB, which was just outside of where we were parked and right on the river. We highly recommend it. What would be a good idea for the next time is to coordinate with the Park and get a park ranger to take us around so that we can identify more plants. Again, thanks Joe for being such a great host!

It was a pleasure hosting all of you and exploring the local park system between the Rancocas Nature Center in Westampton and Amico Park. What were your takeaways from this forage? For me, it was enjoying your company and discussion. You made wood sorrel, plantain, and lambs quarters a welcome addition to my yard ;-D

This is what this group is all about! Self-organizing! It is a bit last minute (like my last one was). Generally speaking, you want to give everyone about 2 weeks notice. It's also a good idea to put it in your local paper or community bulletin board.
