What we're about

Nature Speaks is about reconnecting with nature. It's about getting outside, meeting likeminded people and using art as a vehicle for mindfulness and wellbeing. You don’t need to have any skill or ability in art and there is no judgement or competition. Wellies and warm clothing recommended!

I started experimenting with Wild Art because I found that it helps me to connect thoughts and feelings with the restorative flow of Earth's wisdom. Most of us have grown up in a society that has become detached from the natural world and we find ourselves going in circles trying to manage our symptoms without really finding the root of the problem. We become out of synch with the regenerative and balancing ways of the earth and it makes us lose sight of who we really are.

As a nurse, and then in my training as a clinical hypnotherapist, it often struck me how unnatural it was to conduct therapy sessions in a room, using language and psychological constructs to effect change. Many people suffering from anxiety or low self-esteem find language inadequate for capturing their innermost thoughts and feelings. Often the search for answers with a ‘conventional’ therapist can yield only partial solutions and give temporary inspiration. The outdoors can often feel safer and less intimidating Especially combined with activities that focus the mind.

Through organising these sessions I hope members will find that being outdoors, and being creative, will help improve self-compassion and will show that sometimes there is an alternative, free, therapy available for all. For many the connection with like-minded individuals will be very beneficial (and fun) too.

Sometimes we can make pictures out of the natural entities available to us, other times we can balance stones, paint or draw. There are no rules. At the end of each session it would be good to have a discusssion about what we have learned and gained from each experience. It will all be very informal and I’m hoping for most of the sessions to book a room so that we can warm up and have a chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Many people will be coming on their own, so don’t worry if you don’t know anyone. If you’re a bit nervous message me beforehand so that I can look out for you.

Wild Art - let Nature be your therapist

Nant Mill Visitors Centre

I’m hiring the education centre at Nant Mill for this event - it’s in the ideal spot with the river and ancient woodland right by it. Perfect for stone balancing, picture making, anything creative! No experience needed, there is no judging, no teaching, just creative fun. There will be hot drinks available and it will be nice to sit down and have a chat at the end of the session and share ideas. It will be a free event but if anyone wants to bring a packet of biscuits to share around they will be very welcome!
