Cruise ship itineraries span the globe and people's reason for cruising vary. Some people like to easily reach multiple destinations. Some enjoy the scenery as they pass. While others are more interested in the on board activities than the destinations. The key to enjoying a cruise is finding one that matches your interests and that is going to give you the experience you want. Whether that be reaching small isolated islands, or partying all night with 5,000 other travelers. Travelers at our meetup often ask about cruising, and especially about finding travel buddies to go on a cruise with. If this interests you, come to this meetup to learn about the wide-range of cruise options and meet other people interested in water journeys. Our Speakers are Anne Berry and Angela Jocobus, an adventurous mother-daughter travel team. They are experts in going beyond the typical tourist experience, and help others do the same through their company Travel that Matters (http://travelthatmatters.net/). They recently wrote "In our conversations about travel, we keep noticing two types of travelers: Cruisers and NON-cruisers. Cruisers absolutely love everything big ships have to offer and can’t imagine a better way to travel. Non-cruisers would rather stick a fork in their eye than board a ship with thousands of people. To be honest, until recently, both Angela and I would have fallen into the latter category. Lately, though, we've had a change of heart. While we still prefer land-based and small-ship travel itineraries, we're much more intrigued by big-ship cruising than ever before. And that’s why we're the perfect people to dispel any preconceived ideas you might have—whether you're a cruiser, a non-cruiser or somewhere in between—because it's a whole new world out there." Talk Travels are free, however, all attendees are asked to donate $3 - $5 to cover meetup costs and buy the speakers a drink. We have reserved the Barrel Room at Rogue Eastside. Order your food/drink at the main bar and then join us. This room is a bit hard to find so ask the staff for directions. There is limited seating in the room, so ONLY RSVP IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND. It is important that we have an accurate headcount. If your plans change after signing up - go to Meetup.com and switch your RSVP. Talk Travels are often super popular and get wait-lists. So no showing is tough on other travelers, the speakers, and the venue. Please be considerate and honor your RSVP. Schedule: 5:30 - Barrel Room opens to our group 5:40 - 6:30 - General socializing with travelers (order food/drink) 6:30 - 6:40 - Group Announcements 6:40 - 7:30 - Presentation on Cruising Around the World 7:30 - 7:40 - Wrap up 7:40 - 8:00 Continue chatting with other travelers or our speakers, and settle your bill 8:00 - Head for home with visions of Cruise Ships floating in your head Meetup Hosts: Shyla and Dan Bare started this meetup group to hang-out with other travelers and to share the travel tips they learned while doing a seven-year trip around the world. They are also co-founders of Wild Spirit Travel (www.WildSpiritTravel.com) and have co-authored the best selling travel tips book on Amazon called the Before You Go Abroad Handbook (https://www.amazon.com/Before-You-Abroad-Handbook-International/dp/1537322346). Solo travel can be rewarding, but daunting. The instructor, Shyla Esko Bare, knows this as she had trepidations before her first solo trip. But how glad she is that she overcame that fear and went for it! Shyla now loves independent travel. In this class, she will explore the realities, good and challenging, of solo international travel and give strategies for dealing with the fear of venturing forth and of feeling alone. Come build your travel confidence before you go abroad. Class topics include: tips for staying safe; selecting destinations; finding travel buddies; choosing transport and accommodation for one; and, optimizing your single travel budget. For travelers going independently or solo on tours. This is a TRAVEL CLASS through Portland Community College. To attend you must register with PCC. Tuition is $45. The class CRN number is 25253. Want to meet other travelers - so you can share your stories, learn from their's, and maybe even find future travel partners? Then come on out to our monthly Global Travel Social. We are a friendly group of travelers - some of our members have been around the world a few times while others have yet to get their first stamp in their passport. Regardless, if you define yourself as a traveler then join us. This is a free event, however, all attendees are asked to donate $2 - $3 to cover meetup.com expenses. Also, please support our venues by ordering food and/or drink. Our socials move around the city, this month we are in the Hollywood district at Columbia River Brewing. When you enter through the main door, our group will be on the right. Order at the main bar - then join us. If you RSVP for the Global Travel Social, please attend. In order to have good relationships with our venues, it helps to have an accurate headcount. If your plans change simply switch your meetup RSVP. The start time for our Global Travel Social is flexible - turn up when you can and leave when you want. Some travelers will arrive as early as 5:45, but no worries if you can't get there that early. Usually some travelers are still there until around 8:30 - still sharing travel stories and having fun. Parking is limited in the Hollywood area, so give yourself time to find a space. Don't park in the lots of other businesses or you may be towed. Columbia River Brewing is near a bus line and not far from the Max either.
