A great way to enjoy the outdoors during the winter. Gold Lake SnoPark offers several trails to explore, with great views of Diamond Peak and Odell Lake.
We will meet at Best Buy, just off I-5. The drive takes just over an hour. Once there we will snowshoe along the trail up to the West View Shelter and then out to the Odell Lake Overlook. We can take a lunch at either site. From there we can make a loop up the hill, before heading back down to the SnoPark.
Depending on weather conditions and everyone's input, we can snowshoe other trails as well.
Gold Lake SnoPark offers parking, a snow shelter, ski patrol information and office, and restrooms. A SnowPark Permit is required to park for the day. Permits are available at most sporting goods stores, including REI in Eugene. A day pass, or an annual pass is available.
I ask that all members dress accordingly for winter weather and activities. Avoid wearing any cotton, as it soaks up sweat and water, but doesn't dry or keep you warm once it is wet. Bring at least a liter of water and a packed lunch. Spare dry socks and a change of clothes for afterwards are highly encouraged.
We can plan on eating together afterwards. There is a great place to eat further up the highway, or we can stop in Oakridge. I hope to be back to Eugene sometime around 6:00PM. Please be willing to enjoy the full day, that everyone can experience the trip without feeling we need to rush or get back to town just for one or two people. Also keep in mind everyone's pace is different.
Snowshoes can be rented in Eugene for the day from both REI and Berg's. They both offer great snowshoes and excellent customer service.
Be sure to bring water, warm clothes, a packed lunch, and a positive and adventurous attitude.
