A beautiful trail that takes you to a hidden waterfall, and a shallow creek, near a log bridge.

    http://youtu.be/DQuI1Yziulo

Trail Info: Goodman Creek is a 4.0 mile out and back hike with 300' of elevation gain. The trail is rated as easy, and can be found on page 193 in William L. Sullivan's Third Edition of "100 Hikes in the Central Oregon Cascades", which is available from most REI stores, as well as Barnes and Noble.

Where: Goodman Creek is located just before milepost 21 on HWY 58, near Dexter.

    When: Sunday, February 9th.

Directions: Heading South on I-5, take Exit 188A, for Oakridge. Follow HWY 58 for 20 miles and then turn right into the parking lot for the Hardesty Trailhead, just before milepost 21.

Details: I plan on hiking in along the cove and following parts of the creek for 2.0 miles. There is a small waterfall near the turnaround spot for us to enjoy. After taking some pictures and a possible snack near the log bridge, we will return to the cars back through the woods 2.0 miles, making for a 4.0 mile out and back.

    Contact: Matthew Howell - (541)[masked]

Forest Service: Middle Fork Ranger District - (541)[masked]

Requirements and Suggestions: All members wishing to attend must read the full write up, and answer the RSVP form accordingly.  Not doing so will result in being removed from the trip.  I don't want unprepared individuals on my trips. I require that all hikers bring enough water to last them longer than a 4.0 mile hike. I also highly recommend light, quick drying clothing and dressing in layers for warmth. A good pair of water resistant hiking boots or shoes are encouraged, as the trail will have some mud, as well as a creek crossing on rocks. Please avoid wearing cotton, as it is a hydrophilic fabric, meaning it loves water. Once cotton gets wet it loses its insulating value and will not keep you warm. It also takes longer to dry. Bring along a few snacks and your 10 Essentials in a day pack for the hike.

    10 Essentials:

Navigation - Map, compass, and possibly a GPS.

Hydration - Water, container, and either a filter or iodine tablets.

Nutrition - Food, snacks, containing protein, and calories.

Sun Protection - Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, lip balm.

Insulation - Hat and gloves, warm jacket, extra layers (non cotton).

Warmth - Lighter or matches. Firestarter or stove and fuel.

Illumination - Headlamp or flashlight with extra batteries.

First Aid - For you and your gear. Bandages, knife, medicine, duct tape.

Shelter - Emergency blanket in case you are out longer than expected.

Whistle - Great for communication, or emergency signaling.

Carpooling: We will meet at Best Buy, on Gateway, just of I-5 to set up carpools. Please indicate in your RSVP if you are willing to drive. Those that need rides, please be willing to chip in for gas money and wear and tear of the driver's vehicle.

Parking and Regulations: Goodman Creek does not require the Northwest Forest Pass. There is a large parking lot near the Hardesty Trailhead, that offers a bathroom.

Hope to see you on the trail.

I'm going to cancel the hike due to the weather. The trail would be under snow, or quite muddy from all the snowmelt. I will reschedule the hike for another time.

Hi Matthew- I'm new to this group and haven't participated yet. I would like to come on this hike with my husband. We are near HWY 58 and it would be easier for us to meet at the trailhead - is that okay?

If you can be at the trailhead between 9:15AM and 9:30AM, that should work. I drive a small light blue Ford Escort. My cell number is listed in the write up.
