March Wilmington Writers Group meeting - Why We Write

MARCH Wilmington Writers Group
Monday, March 10, 2014 - 7 pm

The March Main Line Writers Group program will feature Merry Jones presenting Why We Write.

In the last twenty-three years, Merry Jones is has written 18 books, including three  series: four mysteries, five thrillers and two psychological suspense. Her work also includes two non-fiction (women's issue) books and five humor books which have been excerpted in magazines like GLAMOUR and reprinted in seven languages. So far, she's had three agents and seven publishers (not counting herself.) Jones is a member of the Philadelphia Liars Club, Mystery Writers of America, International Thriller Writers and The Authors Guild. She lives outside Philadelphia and her house is up for sale if anyone is shopping.

Our meeting place is now Red Robin in north Wilmington, north of the Concord Mall on Rt 202. The address is 6100 Brandywine Parkway, Wilmington, DE between the Target and the water fountain lake. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6:30 pm) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. They are seating us in an area which should be good for creating a closeness and offer us some seclusion.

Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Red Robin off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Red Robin does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are reasonably priced. IF you have special dietary needs, the manager has agreed to create some vegetarian friendly meals with some advance notice. If you would like this, please call and make arrangements at least a day in advance.

Mark your calendar for every second Monday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.

This is a membership group. After you attend and try us out, we ask that if you find the group of value and want to continue, you help with the costs of running the group. The costs of the group include the fee we pay for meetup, the web site hosting and buying meals for guest speakers, handouts, fliers, etc. YOUR FIRST MEETING IS FREE AND A TRIAL TO SEE IF YOU FIND IT A FIT!

This is a sister group of the Main Line Writers Group, held the third Wednesday of the month in King of Prussia. you can check it out and see what people think of it! www.meetup.com/Main-Line-Writers

We are all looking forward to seeing you!

Agree Merry was great! My problem was that I could not hear her and would highly suggest a mic be used. I liked the honest appraisal of a writer, not because of making money but because you are a WRITER!

I will have a microphone and speaker at the next event and ongoing. Unfortunately this is the best room we have found with the least background noise

If it is possible to first discourage and then encourage a group - - then Merry Jones pulled off a monumental task. She meant to be honest about the state of the business, and she was. Then she gets us to face up to our challenges and gives us inspiration, encouragement and confidence to do so. Well done.

I greatly appreciate that Merry shared her experiences as a writer so openly. She was a wealth of knowledge and gave me much to think about. I'm looking forward to someday reading her writings.

I just wanted to say that this was an awesome evening. I'm glad I was finally able to make it, and I will definitely be back. I especially wanted to thank Merry Jones of the fantastic discussion. It was very eye-opening and insightful.

Merry is one of those amazing writers who can tap into our common core and help us better understand the parts of ourselves that drive our actions. She also shared her own travels through her 17(!) published books and some of the many challenges facing all writers then and now. Thanks Merry for an outstanding presentation.
And, as always, it is inspiring to share with a group of writers all looking to expand and share their skills and knowledge. Great people.

Just a little confused. The meeting info says Red Robin, but your comment says Lone Star Steak House. Which is the right location? I don't want to show up at the wrong place.
