Wimbledon Common to Richmond Park Guided Walk, Sat 4 August, 1pm
Walking is one of life's healthiest and greatest social activities. So why not join us for a relaxed and leisurely afternoon's walk? We will meet at The Wimbledon War Memorial on Saturday 4 August, 1pm and make our way through the Common towards Richmond Park. The walk will begin at the Wimbledon War Memorial and take us through Wimbledon Common and briefly across the busy A3 and through into one of the entrances of Richmond Park. I reckon the entire walk will take us around 2 hours, with maybe a couple of 10-minute stops to catch our breaths and admire the scenery and hopefully a deer or two. And dependent on our leisurely pace we should arrive at Richmond Hill by 3pm. There are many pubs in this vicinity but we may visit The Roebuck pub if there is space for us. The Roebuck pub is one of London's oldest pubs and dates back to the 1500s. It has one of the most beautiful and powerful views in London and sits on millionaire's row where the likes of Mick Jagger, Pete Townsend and Jerry Hall (though the latter might have been chucked out of the neighbourhood since marrying Rupert Murdoch) all hang out. Detail: We will meet at the Wimbledon Common War Memorial at 1pm. At 1.10pm we will set off. The Memorial is located about a minutes walk on the other side of the road from The Rose & Crown pub heading towards Parkside and the Common. At 1pm we will being the journey through the Common and slightly downhill towards the Richard Evans sports field and head safely across the A3 into Richmond Park via the Robin Hood gate. I am not an expert guide but have knowledge of the Common's and Richmond Park's history. We may also take a wrong turn, though I don't think this is likely, and get lost, but should this happen it will be part of the day's fun.. I don't think we'll get lost however.. well not that lost! We Plan B: PLEASE keep an eye out on the message board and messages that I may send updating members of this event. Should it rain quite heavily on the day and or the weather isn't looking too promising we will still meet at the Memorial and head straight to The Hand in Hand pub for a social getting to know each other drinks. I will ask for £2 towards Meetup costs, however should for weather reasons we decide not to go to Richmond Park I will merely ask for £1 which will go towards paying Meetup - yes, Meetup sadly isn't free and charge Organisers a fee every six months. In terms of safety please kindly read the following: http://www.meetup.com/Wimbledon-Commoners/pages/Wimbledon_Commoners_Disclaimer/ Do note that I will update these details before this meetup, and also take note that this event is subject to change and cancellation should there not be sufficient numbers of people that can attend, although to date this has never happened. Look forward to seeing you in a fortnight's time! Christopher P.S. I organise another meetup group called Sapphire Backgammon and we meet fortnightly in Central London to play backgammon near Tavistock Square. Why not join us? What we're about

Isn't Wimbledon such a great place to hang out? If you agree with this and would like to meet people and explore Wimbledon further why not come and join us at one of our events.

We like meeting friendly people for events mainly in and around Wimbledon Village and Town Centre, after work drinks in pubs and bars, dining out in restaurants, movie nights, pub quizzes, walks in the Common, weekend events, and much more. Our aim is to have relaxed conversation and meet new and existing members. We have even been known to hold 'by invitation only' events at members homes - so why not join to be part of our community.

If you have any further ideas or suggestions for group events do get in touch. I am particularly interested in events that wouldn't break the bank and are in pleasant surroundings.

We look forward to seeing you at our next event.
