Family-Friendly Meditation Service

Winding Path Tendai Buddhist Sangha

Over the past several years we've had a handful of people inquiry about programming for families. Since February we've been experimenting with a family-friendly service. We will continue to offer this service through the summer and possibly beyond that time, depending on our community's level of interest. The service starts with a 20 minute story and conversation time followed by 3 ten minute seated mindfulness and meditation periods with standing and stretching in between and a brief chanting practice to conclude the service. There is time for socializing with other families after the service. The entire service runs from 9:00-10:30. Families of all types with children of all ages are welcome to attend on these days. We request that children in attendance are accompanied by a parent or guardian. Questions? Please email [masked]. Upcoming Dates: Saturday, April 27, 9:00-10:30 AM Saturday, May 25, 9:00-10:30 AM

Ennin’s Pilgrimage

Winding Path Tendai Buddhist Sangha

Ennin’s Pilgrimage Ennin or Jikaku Daishi was the third zasu of Tendai. He spent nearly ten years journeying through China seeking to deepen and add to the Tendai teachings and practices established by Saicho. This evening’s talk will summarize some highlights from Ennin’s journey and the significance of Ennin’s contribution to Tendai Buddhism. ----- Please join us at 36 Marengo Park in Springfield, MA (off of Belmont Ave). There is typically plenty of street parking just past the temple house. Please be respectful to stay clear of neighbors' driveways while parking. We are a short drive from 91. Email [masked] if you need advice about the easiest route to reach us. Our weekly service starts with a 30 minute talk or discussion led by Reverend Shingaku. (See our website windingpath.org for details about the weekly topic.) After the discussion we perform the Tendai daily service and then engage in 2 periods of meditation. If this is your first time for attending, please arrive 15 minutes early for an orientation. Please dress comfortably, and be prepared to remove your shoes. (We like to keep our space clean since many of us are sitting on the floor.)

Mindfulness for Parents

Winding Path Tendai Buddhist Sangha

This gathering will be a collective exploration of how teachings and practices from mindfulness and Buddhist traditions can support your journey as a parent. Each month we will read a short text and then come together to discuss the reading and how it applies to our lives. The discussion is followed by an optional 20 minute meditation to put the teachings into practice. The text for each month will be available two weeks before the meeting. This group is open to all parents--those who are familiar with Buddhist teachings and are wondering how they apply to parenthood, those who are unfamiliar with mindfulness practices and are looking for some strategies to support the challenges of parenting, and those who are somewhere in between. You are welcome to join for the whole series of gatherings or just for one. This group will meet once per month through June on the following dates. Saturday, February 9, 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, March 9, 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, April 13, 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, May 11, 10:00-11:30 AM Saturday, June 8, 10:00-11:30 AM
