What we're about

Are you looking for something in your life but you're not sure what it is? Then this is for you...

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is known as the Yoga of Awareness. It is a fun, ‘do-able’ and transformational yoga for busy lives. It has countless benefits – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. But ultimately its purpose is to bring you happiness, and fulfilment of your potential as a human being.

Kundalini Yoga elevates your consciousness, promotes physical well-being and expands your awareness. You will feel more relaxed and at ease with yourself. Your life will be transformed into one which is happy, healthy and harmonious.

All kinds of people come to Kundalini Yoga classes. In fact, it has been said that if you can breathe and you lean in the right direction, you will receive some benefit!

A typical class consists of a kriya (a set of exercises, often done to music, in a specific order and for a specific benefit), followed by a deep relaxation and a meditation. Our practice includes breath work(pranayam), yoga postures (asanas), chanting (mantra) and meditation.

Above all, Kundalini Yoga provides you with an experience of your highest consciousness through the safe and gradual raising of your Kundalini energy. It gives you the vitality and health that is your birthright and makes you radiant, peaceful and strong so you are better able to meet life’s challenges.

All levels of experience are always welcome, including absolute beginners.

We look forward to meeting you!

Introduction to Biodynamic Gardening with André Tranquilini

The Lotus Sanctuary

£75.00

Why offer a biodynamic gardening course in a yoga and meditation group I hear you ask....?

Well, Yoga and Biodynamics share many similarities. Like yoga, biodynamic methods bring health to our bodies by healing the Earth. They help foster healthy plants and animals that provide enhanced nutrition and that is just the beginning of a deep analogy.

Yoga depends on a focus on the breath, as does biodynamics. When we practice biodynamics, we do so in sync with the Earth’s inspirations (from 3AM to Noon) and expirations (from 3PM to Midnight). We can intentionally use our biodynamic preparations and time our gardening practices with the Earth’s breath for enhanced vitality and keeping capacity of our vegetables and fruits. Also, just as there is a pause between our inhalation and exhalation, so it is with the Earth. The hours between Midnight and 3AM and Noon and 3PM are best left to sleep or more restful pursuits.

The attention to the Earth’s breath is just the beginning. Rhythm is a deep theme in biodynamics. We time our gardening and farming efforts with the rhythms of the sun, moon, stars and planets. The energies of these celestial entities have significant effects on the Earth and all that grows upon her. A biodynamic planting calendar puts these energetic influences down on paper, giving us easy access to the knowledge needed to work consciously with the cosmos. It is indispensable and a satisfying tool to use.

Then we come to meditation, which enhances our practice of yoga and biodynamics. In biodynamics, taking time to hold the land you are privileged to steward in meditation can bring a deeper sense of connection to it and even insight into what it needs or has to offer.

A journey into the practice of biodynamics is a natural next step for the organic grower. With its practical methods and spiritual depth it supports the health of the Earth, and our health. The effects of the practices are sometimes subtle and sometimes dramatic - some research shows that productivity can be increased by up to 40% by adopting biodynamic growing practices; the well-being it brings is definite.

So if you want to begin your own biodynamic practice, the best way, as with yoga, is to just get started and come and join us for this fascinating offering ....

Renowned Biodynamic farmer & teacher André Tranquilini will lead this day where we will immerse ourselves in exploring the wonder and mystery of nurturing and supporting Nature in our gardens whilst growing healthy organic food.

Topics covered will include:
an introduction to biodynamic gardening
garden planning
seed & seedlings
potting soil & composting
natural pest & disease prevention
harvesting & seed saving

What is Biodynamic Gardening?
Biodynamics is the forerunner of today’s organic and sustainable farming movement and includes metaphysical and spiritual aspects.

The course tutor, André Tranquilini is a biodynamic farmer and teacher. André is estate manager at Waltham Place, a 220-acre biodynamic estate in Berkshire. He has worked extensively as a market gardener, outdoor teacher and is a founding member of the seed company, Living Seeds, in Portugal. André has worked on farms in Brazil, Portugal & UK and has travelled widely teaching workshops and lecturing on Biodynamics. He is a recognised biodynamic consultant of the international Biodynamic Agriculture section at The Goetheanum, Switzerland. His educational work is featured in the documentary The Challenge of Rudolf Steiner.
