What we're about

Are you looking for something in your life but you're not sure what it is? Then this is for you...

Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is known as the Yoga of Awareness. It is a fun, ‘do-able’ and transformational yoga for busy lives. It has countless benefits – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. But ultimately its purpose is to bring you happiness, and fulfilment of your potential as a human being.

Kundalini Yoga elevates your consciousness, promotes physical well-being and expands your awareness. You will feel more relaxed and at ease with yourself. Your life will be transformed into one which is happy, healthy and harmonious.

All kinds of people come to Kundalini Yoga classes. In fact, it has been said that if you can breathe and you lean in the right direction, you will receive some benefit!

A typical class consists of a kriya (a set of exercises, often done to music, in a specific order and for a specific benefit), followed by a deep relaxation and a meditation. Our practice includes breath work(pranayam), yoga postures (asanas), chanting (mantra) and meditation.

Above all, Kundalini Yoga provides you with an experience of your highest consciousness through the safe and gradual raising of your Kundalini energy. It gives you the vitality and health that is your birthright and makes you radiant, peaceful and strong so you are better able to meet life’s challenges.

All levels of experience are always welcome, including absolute beginners.

We look forward to meeting you!

Online Yoga Nidra Foundation Course (Session 1 of 5)

Online event

This course is being run together with South Oxfordshire Yoga and Meditation Meetup Group, which I also organise. I hope you can join us. Please click the link below for more details of that group. All are welcome to join: https://www.meetup.com/South-Oxfordshire-Yoga-and-Meditation-Meetup-Group/ 1 hour of Yoga Nidra is as restful as 4 hours of conventional sleep so it's a very useful technique to learn generally. A few of the benefits confirmed by the medical field are increased immune function, digestive function and better sleep. Some of the gifts of Yoga Nidra are the releasing of old habits and thought patterns and reducing fatigue, worry, and stress. Yoga Nidra can be practised by anyone of any age, size or shape. This is not a physical exercise, but a technique for physical rejuvenation, mental relaxation, spiritual growth, and overall wellness. According to yogic thought, unregulated stress is the root of most physical and mental ailments today. The secret of Yoga Nidra (and to better health) lie in its ability to relieve tension and stress at its root and restore a balanced state of mind and a deeply rested body. You can do anything in Yoga Nidra so, even though our "normal" lifestyles are restricted presently, we can live on through our world of Yoga Nidra ... Yoga Nidra or "yogic dreaming" is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It is the "going-to-sleep" stage and is a state in which the body is completely relaxed, and the practitioner becomes systematically and increasingly aware of the inner world by following a set of audio instructions. It is a systematic method of inducing deep physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. The practice is done while lying down on one’s back. The eyes are closed and the body is made completely comfortable. This state of consciousness is different to meditation in which concentration on a single focus is required. It involves deep relaxation with inner awareness. In this Foundation Course you will learn the basic stages/steps of Yoga Nidra, the background and science behind it and how to use the practice in order to clear subconscious patterns, create new ones and awaken deeper states of awareness. Yoga Nidra will assist you in tapping into your highest potential, allow you to access dream and deep sleep states with consciousness and approach life with more empowerment. There will be 5 sessions of 1 hour 15 minutes each forming this Yoga Nidra Foundation Course. (For online meetups, it is only possible to schedule 1 session at a time, but there will be 4 more (one per week) and quite possibly extra more advanced sessions after that too.) Zoom is free to use for you with basic membership for these 75 minute sessions. No previous experience is required. All are welcome to join. Helen will be teaching the course. For her profile, please click here: http://www.thelotussanctuary.com/about-us/ Review from a previous student “Practising yoga nidra takes me to a much deeper level of relaxation. I am sleeping much better and the insights gained during the practice are helping me to improve my daily life. Helen’s voice is very calming and helps you to feel safe to let go and reap the benefits of the sessions”. Andrea, Wantage A rug or mat , blanket and cushion is all that is required or you can do the session sitting up against a wall or sitting in a chair, if preferred.
