http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/8/e/event_162001422.jpegLooks like there is plenty of interest in a wine and book club. We have picked our first read A Good Year by Peter Mayle.
Here is how it will work - you will pick up the book (physically or on your e-reader). Read at your leisure and try to have it finished by the meetup.
Then bring a bottle of wine and we will meet to discuss the book. I will host the first one in my Lakeview home near Belmont and Ashland(directions will come a few days before the event). I will provide some nibbles to go with the wine and the 'discussing' will ensue.
Then at the end of that meetup we will announce the next month's hostess and book.
Most book clubs work best when the same folks meet consistently. We will meet every first Thursday. Should the list become long enough, we will start a second group. Sounds like a great way to meet new people in a small setting.
A bit about this month's book:
The writer with a claim to being the world’s foremost literary escape artist is back, with an intoxicating novel about the business and pleasure of wine, set in his beloved Provence. Max Skinner has recently lost his job at a London financial firm and just as recently learned that he has inherited his late uncle’s vineyard in Provence. On arrival he finds the climate delicious, the food even better, and two of the locals ravishing. Unfortunately, the wine produced on his new property is swill. Why then are so many people interested in it? Enter a beguiling Californian who knows more about wine than Max does–and may have a better claim to the estate. Fizzy with intrigue, bursting with local color and savor, A Good Year is Mayle at his most entertaining.
We do have a little used WCW page on FB. We will try to keep details on there and it might work well if we do add more groups. http://www.facebook.com/groups/156181014493513/
