American Cancer Society’s Walk & Roll

Join us for the 2014 Walk&Roll, one of the few events that offer a skate route.

This is a fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Details can be found here

In order to attend please register on the official site. We have a team: "Windy City Skaters". Just click on "join a team" and find us on the list. Register here

This is a 10k skate at a slow pace and very beginner friendly! We've been doing this for years and I am sure new skaters will enjoy it. It's a great event.

Hope to see you there!

-Kirsten

Kirsten & others, although I've registered as a biker do u think they'd let me skate? Also, do u think I'd be ok skating 10 miles as a beginner? If so do you have any tips that will help me to be comfy on the skates for that long- like what socks to wear, protective gear to bring, etc. (I've got it all).

I think that will be fine. It is a really easy route. Do you know how to brake? There are a couple smaller hills on the path. Nothing major. Definitely wear a helmet, wrist guards and knee pads. Bring some water. I can stay with you and make sure you are fine on the route. Just stop by our tent when you get there. We will be close to Team Rainbo.

I registered as a biker- really I don't event know how to break properly on my in line skates. Hopefully I can take classes in May, but there don't seem to be roller blading lessons in Chicago.

Come out to the Skate Session at Belmont Harbor on April 27. We can teach you basic skating skills. Also, please make sure to come to our tent at the Walk and Roll although you will be biking. Looking forward to meeting you!

I had so much fun last year!!! Definitely beginner friendly considering the fact that I hadn't skated in years prior to that event. I'm sad I'll miss it, I'll be in FL that weekend. Good luck!!

That sounds like a great event and a lot of fun. Assuming there is not 3 feet of snow on the ground, I would love to skate for the American Cancer Society and all the Windy City Skaters.
