Skate Tune-up night. Get ready for the 2014 season!

  • Apr 5, 2014 · 5:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for an opportunity to get your inline skates ready before it gets nice out and you realize you haven't rotated your wheels since the early 90's.

You will be able to learn things like changing/cleaning bearings and rotating wheels from the more experienced skaters. If you have any tools, parts, wheels etc. lying around please bring them. This is also an opportunity to share knowledge and gear. I recommend ordering any wheels or bearings you know you will need beforehand at www.inlinewarehouse.com or www.inlinesports.com (or, of course, any other source you like). If you have any questions what you will need for your skates, please e-mail me. If you are a longboarder/skateboarder etc. feel free to join as well.

I am hosting this meetup at our apartment in Lincoln Park. Due to the size of the place I have to limit this meetup to 20 people. Please be mindful when you rsvp that there may be a waiting list. Please make updates if your plans change to give others a chance to attend should this event fill up.

What else? We will order pizza once everyone gets there. Please bring a beverage of your preference.

Hope to see many of you! Any questions, just post below! 2014 is going to be another amazing skating season!

I have a pair of SEBA FR1 skates to sell. I will get them all ready at the event. Just got new frames for them. They are Men's size 8.5/Women's 10. Anyone interested is welcome to take them for a spin on Saturday.

I can't make it tomorrow, but I'd finally like to meet the group and start skating. Any chance you'll do another tuneup?

We do not have another one planned right now but we can always help you with your skates at another event. Join us for the group dinner on April 13!

    Vegan pizza?

    April 5, 2014

    • Kirsten

If we find a place that has it, yes. If not we will place a second order at Urban Vegan. Can never go wrong with that.

No they're not that fancy LOL ...thanks for the reply :) ...and another question ...I'll be driving there since I'm in the burbs. Is there enough parking on streets ? If so do I need a parking permit?

    1 · April 2, 2014

    • Kirsten

Yes, permit 143 is needed unless you find a spot on Fullerton, Lincoln, Wrightwood, or the west side of Orchard between Lincoln and Fullerton. It is no-permit parking on those streets. I only have very few permits left and it will be first come first serve.

Umm so I have a quick question. My skates are barely "new" , got them 2 years but I've used them like 5 times LOL...and I lost the tools that came with, I thought I had them but couldn't find them anywhere. So I guess my question is, should I just bring my skates as they are? (Been busy with work to look for the parts) or should I leave my spot open for someone else who might wanna attend and who's more prepared? I know is kinda last minute but just wanted to make sure and give my spot to someone else if considered as best idea :) ...thanks for reading.

No worries. I have tools that should work. Unless they are skates of some super unique brand the axles/tools are standard. Looking forward to meeting you.

Any places I can pick up some wheels in person? Probably too late for me to order online

When I bought my skates at Dick's Sporting Goods, they came in 2 days even with standard shipping. Small selection of wheels, but might be worth a look.

There's an appointment-only skate shop in the city, The Pull, but it mainly focuses on "aggressive" parts. There's a huge cache of miscellaneous used stuff though (most of it's free to a good home), and special ordering stuff is always an option. Hopefully I can bring one of the people running the shop with me.

Thanks for the invite but I will not be able to make it. I did just order wheels from inlinewarehouse.com, thanks for that tip. You can get 20% off by using the code 'spring20'. Not sure how long that deal lasts.

    March 31, 2014

    • Kirsten

All future events are on the main homepage http://www.meetup.com... I am not aware of anything on the 28th but we have the ACS Walk and Roll on the 26th. The first official road rave is on May 2nd. Hope to see you there!
