Attendance and No-Shows

NO SHOWS ARE NOT COOL AND HAVE CONSEQUENCES.

DON'T BE A FLAKE!

WAFTers are cool, but it is deeply uncool to say that you will attend an event and then fail to show up. So, please be a cool and considerate other wine & food travel lovers by attending events for which you have RSVP'd "Yes" and please update your RSVP and contact the event organizer if your plans have changed.

When you fail to show up for an event, you inconvenience the organizer (who is doing this for free) and the other event attendees because they will often wait and/or hold a seat for you. If an event has a waiting list, you have kept someone who would have shown up from attending, because you took a spot and then were absent.

"YES" IS A COMMITMENT, NOT A BACK-UP PLAN

When you RSVP "Yes" to an event, you are making a commitment to attend, and you should view a "Yes" RSVP as a social commitment, not as a back-up to other plans. Organizers and assistant organizers will often make arrangements with restaurants, clubs, and other third parties based on the number of "Yes" RSVPs, and no-shows can make those businesses reluctant to take our reservations in the future. Because your failure to show can make all of us look bad, we do not like no-shows, and take them seriously in evaluating your likelihood to attend other events.

"YES" MEANS YOU WILL ACTUALLY SEEK OUT, AND MEET UP WITH, THE GROUP

The whole point of these events is to meet other wine & food traveler fans, not to have a bunch of individual fans attend on their own. Event organizers will provide specific details about how and where to meet, along with contact information, and often will save seats at general-admission events. Please follow those instructions, be on time, and contact the organizer if you are running late or cannot find the group. Failure to actually meet the group and/or contact the organizer may be considered a no-show, even if you attended the event. If you'd rather not worry about meeting up with the group, then please don't RSVP for the Meetup event.

"YES" DOES NOT MEAN "MAYBE"

Please do not RSVP "Yes" for any event unless and until you are ready to commit to attending that event. Most of our events have limits on RSVPs, so holding a spot at any event you only might attend might bar someone who is ready to commit from RSVPing. Don't worry, if the event has filled up by the time you decide you'd like to come, there will be other events, and other opportunities down the line. Far better to miss one event than to sour your reputation among the group by flaking out and being a no-show.

"YES" MAY REQUIRE THAT YOU PURCHASE A TICKET

Many of our events are open only to those who have purchased tickets. In these cases, you must purchase your ticket before you can RSVP "Yes". When you RSVP "Yes," you will be asked to confirm your ticket purchase. Failure to do so may result in your RSVP being changed to "No" or "Not Going."

WHAT IF I MEANT TO ATTEND BUT FORGOT?

Sorry, but you will still be considered a no-show. If you have trouble keeping track of social commitments and appointments, then maybe this group is not for you.

WHAT ABOUT THE UNEXPECTED?

Stuff happens, and even the best-laid plans can change unexpectedly. If that happens to you, please change your RSVP and/or contact the organizer as soon as you know or think you won't be able to make it.

"CHECKING IN" ON A MOBILE DEVICE DOES NOT COUNT AS ATTENDING

The point of this Meetup Group, and the reason we organize these outings, is to actually meet fellow members and enjoy time together. Organizers provide contact information before an event so that if you are having problems finding the group, you can contact us. If you wish to attend an event but don't particularly care if you connect with our group, please go on your own and do not RSVP for the Meetup event itself.

NO FLAKES ALLOWED

If you RSVP "Yes" for an event, but do not attend, you may be marked as a no-show, and this may affect your ability to participate in future Wine & Food Travel Meetup events. Depending on the event, "Yes" RSVPs from members with a history of no-shows may be switched to "No/Not Going."

In some cases, habitual no-showers may be removed from the Meetup Group altogether.
