WVDS is a study group for ambitious wine lovers looking to enhance their knowledge of the grape.
What to expect from the group:
The focus of each session will be based primarily on the content from levels 1 (Intro) and 2 (Certified) of the Court of Master Sommeliers exams. (As it is also mentioned below, members do not need to be planning on taking these exams to join.)
Sessions will consist of . Coordinated group study with one or two people leading discussions . Private study time . Tastings (both blind and otherwise) . Demonstrations and practice in wine serving/selling. . The probable couple glasses of wine shared between study buddies!
Each session will be held at Destinations Wine Bar in Fairview, TX. They have 350+ wines by the bottle and about 75 of them are available by the glass, which will offer a wide variety for tasting purposes. They also offer a nice Tapas menu for those who are hungry and are run by two amazing owners, a great wine director and a fantastic staff (if I do say so myself! *wink wink*). For more information on the location, visit their website at destinationswinebar.com or their Facebook page.
What the group expects of members:
Members may join for a variety of reasons; whether it be to take an exam, further their sales/career, or simply learn for the sake of learning. Each member should however, have at least a basic understanding of wine and the culture that surrounds it. Each person will be expected to participate to the best of their ability. Someone who joins for recreational purposes has the same expectations set for them as someone who joins for professional reasons.
At the moment I do not have a set time or day to have reoccurring meetups, as I would like to see what everyone’s availability is. Ideally, I would like to meet once a week on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays sometime in the late afternoon or early evening. Again, nothing is set in stone as of yet, but expect updates on scheduling very soon!
