Are you willing to pay a fee for this meetup?

In case you don't know this, organizers get charged for our meetup groups. Some pass this charge along to their members. But despite going from free to 2 increases over the years, I have long held that I didn't want to do that. Well, in December Meetup HQ announced that they were going to charge organizers based on their membership numbers. Because we have a large membership base (over 1,000 people!) and because I was grandfathered in a long time ago when they started charging then set their first increase, my monthly fee has now increased from $9/month to $19.99/month! I didn't want to charge people, but I just went from paying $108/year to paying $240/year. I am not trying to make money from this...I just want to recoup some of my costs. I estimated that I have spent over $1500 (from meetup fees, location charges to hold rooms, unpaid bills, etc) of my own money over the past 10 years, not including my own wine & food purchases. So now I need your feedback! Please answer honestly.

Are you willing to pay $35 for the party?

I would like to celebrate 10 years of running wine group in a special way! I have the opportunity to set up an event in March or April at which we will have 5 appetizers (both meat and vegetarian options) and wines to pair with each food. The cost would be approximately $35/person, which would include the food, wine, tax, & tip. Would you be willing to pre-pay that amount to attend this event? I will also likely purchase a cake and a dessert wine to pair with it out of my own pocket.
