What we're about

This is a group to bring together adults who have not healed from a break up/divorce, are tired of feeling stuck, and are ready for a wake up in order to move forward in their lives. I started this group for women and men who are open to learning some new ideas about break ups and forgiveness. We'll have a specific teaching topic with group discussion that will lead participants to "wake up" opportunities and ideas, as well as provide social time to connect with and get to know each other.

Hello to All! 6.30.2019

Thank you for joining this group. I am new to the Meetup world so there are probably many things I am not doing correctly, but I will learn along the way and welcome any constructive comments J.

I want to give you some background on who I am and why I started this group. I went through a divorce in 2004 to 2005. I then remarried in 2008 and found that even with a new hubby, two extra kids in addition to my four, a new home, and all the transitions into a new life that went along with my new marriage, I still had a lot of “junk in my trunk.” Fear, shame, guilt, anger, pain, and more would often rear their ugly heads randomly even though I was still in therapy and still trying my best to heal.

Around 2014, a variety of things happened that forced me to dive deeper into my recovery and made me realize that I could distill what I was learning and pass it on. I created Your Break Up Wake Up in 2016, but still had so many of my own struggles that I didn’t feel capable of teaching what I had learned. I mean, if I can’t clean up my own house, how can I help you clean up yours?

So, here we are in 2019 and I feel that this past year especially has been transformative for me. It is time for me to be courageous and see what other people are experiencing and learning. I’ve learned so much in the past decade and wish I had had this information available to me when I went through my divorce and the healing afterwards.

My goal is to bring people together who have gone through a break up/divorce that has truly broken them. You are tired of being stuck and of repeating the “story” in subsequent relationships (“I always attract the same kind of man/woman”). You are ready for some different ideas and are awake to new possibilities of ways to heal and grow. You are compassionate and interested in hearing what other people have experienced and learned.

If this sounds like you, please come and join us! You have something to learn and to teach. I want you to participate in whatever way makes you comfortable. Also, wear comfy clothes and bring your dinner or snacks with you to the meeting if you like. The Library allows all food and drink except for alcoholic beverages. I scheduled our meeting for 6:30 as the library closes at 8 so we need to be out by 7:45. We’ll see if this venue works in the first couple of gatherings.

I look forward to meeting you! Hope to see you soon!

Suzanne

The next "Your Break Up Wake Up" gathering!

East Branch Library in Oviedo

Please come and join in! We are a group of heart-centered people who are healing from loss and change in our lives due to break up/divorce. We are getting to know each other and our unique journeys. If you are new to this group, we are glad you are here, and you will feel comfortable and accepted with us. These gatherings provide us all with an opportunity to talk through our current feelings and happenings. We receive input from the rest of the group and are able to give our own insight, ideas, and encouragement to others. We start with introductions and then each member has a chance to talk about what is top of mind at that moment. Hearing different perspectives and similar feelings about common experiences in invaluable when you are healing after the loss of a relationship. You might be inspired or at least feel understood and relieved to release your feelings through words. My role is as a guide during this meeting to help navigate the discussion and to make sure you feel comfortable. My goal is to provide valuable resources, ideas, and strategies while learning the same from the other members. We will help each other spark new thoughts that lead to different reactions, feelings, and behaviors for the purpose of "waking up." We understand that everything we discuss stays private within our group. Food and drink (non-alcoholic) are allowed in the conference room where we meet which is just to the left when you enter the front door of the library. If you have school-age children, they can hang out in the library while you are in our meeting. Please either message me here on Meetup or email me at [masked] if you have any questions, suggestions, or comments. Thank you for being part of this group! I look forward to meeting you if you are just joining us and getting to know all of you better as we go. Hope to see you soon!
