What we're about

Leading teacher of improvised comedy Emma Bird is expanding Liverpool Comedy Improv to The Wirral. There's lots of details about Liverpool Comedy Improv on Meetup, Facebook and the website.

THESE WORKSHOPS ARE PARTICULARLY SUITED TO ANYONE WHO HAS NEVER TRIED COMEDY IMPROVISATION BEFORE!

WHAT IS IMPROVISATION?
Improvisation is a form of theatre comedy where all scenes, characters and stories are created on the fly. Improvisation is underpinned by clear structures and rigorous principles which means it is a totally learnable skill, and doable by all. It is fun, creative and playful and helps you develop your creativity, spontaneity, self-confidence, public speaking and wellbeing. You will laugh long and hard - guaranteed!

Everyone can improvise. You literally do it everyday, in every conversation you have - you are making it up on the spot! In improvisation classes, you don’t have to be funny, or clever or try to impress. Just honest, open, authentic and playful. You do not need any experience in acting, performing or comedy.

“A wonderful and nurturing environment where the main aim is to just cut loose and have fun. I’ve been loving it to pieces and it’s been doing me the world of good as well. Highly recommended for anybody.”

Classes are open to everyone. You will be guided through improvised scenes and games in a way which is accessible and friendly. And no, you don’t have to ‘be funny’! Just bring an open, playful spirit and we’ll do the rest! You may find yourself more confident, creative and open outside the class as you discover how the application of improv principles makes life just a little more easy and fun.

“Best decision I’ve ever made! I was absolutely terrified but that went away as soon as we started. Everyone is so supportive and nice that it’s impossible to feel nervous.”

WHAT HAPPENS IN CLASS?
Each workshop starts with ice breaker games, where playfulness, trust & laughter are experienced! Everyone is involved and relaxes and gets to know each other through playful games. We then lead into simple, very short improvised scenes and games. Some of you might be familiar with the TV show ‘Whose Line is it Anyway’, many of the games are inspired by this format. The principles of improvisation are explored and will guide you through each workshop.

“I laughed a lot, learnt a lot and got to know some great fun people … The great thing is that improv can help you build confidence and find creative juices you didn’t know you had.”

"Your confidence will grow, your spontaneity, your openness to new experiences and your weekly laughter quota will be dramatically increased!"
