  • This is the "Icebreaker" an introduction to a whole new season of camping! Discover the techniques and skills to camp comfortably and enjoy Wisconsin winters. Through discussion and hands on demonstrations, you will learn the ins and outs of cold weather camping and how to prepare for a winter wilderness experience.

Wilderness Instructor Nick Gordon will be leading this lecture originally used in the university setting. He has been winter camping and leading trips since 2009 from overnights to week long expeditions. His coldest temps to date are -41F ambient and -65F windchill!

Nick's' dedication and experience in cold weather camping helps him both in and outside of the classroom. Other programs of this caliber cost hundreds more and are typically unavailable in NW Wisconsin. Sign up today and gain new insight and experience in this exciting camp season!

There will be an overnight trip January 7th-8th. Details will be given to all participants. This is a great opportunity for beginners and also those with experience in other winter recreation activities.

Through hands on practice in the classroom and wilderness settings, you will learn how to:

    · Prepare hearty meals that are easy to cook

    · Dress appropriately for conditions

    · Make potable water

    · Set up a shelter such as a tent, tarp, bivy, or hammock to stay warm and dry in a sub-freezing wilderness setting.

    · Build a sustainable fire

    Fee covers:

    • 4 hours of instruction by Wilderness Instructor and guide Nick Gordon

    • Handouts and other class items

Money can be sent using paypal to [masked] Cash or check is also accepted but must be received by the deadline. Please contact me with any questions. I am happy to help.
