Riley's Pancake Rally

  • May 25, 2014 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us as we rally from all over the Madison area to gather for a group ride to Riley Tavern for an All You Can Eat pancake breakfast.  Our group ride will begin at the Verona Park and Ride along Old PB on the east side of Verona.  Madison-area riders are encouraged to ride to our gathering location via the network of trails in Madison and the paved portion of the Military Ridge State Trail.

From our gathering location, you may choose either a trail ride or a road ride to get to Riley Tavern.

Trail Ride

We will ride to Riley Tavern via the Military Ridge State Trail.  The total distance for the ride is about 14 miles, 7 miles to our breakfast destination and 7 miles back.  The trail has a crushed limestone surface and is suitable for hybrid bikes or road bikes with wider tires. The trail runs along an abandoned railroad line and is very flat.

Road Ride

We will ride to Riley Tavern via a series of paved county roads with moderate hills.  The total distance for the ride is 18 miles, 9 miles to our breakfast destination and 9 miles back.

For road riders who wish a longer ride, there will be two additional return routes.  The medium-length return route will continue to Cross Plains before returning to Verona, for a total ride of 37 miles.  The longest return route will continue to Black Earth and Cross Plains before returning to Verona, for a total ride of 60 miles.  Both of these longer return routes are over paved county roads with challenging hills.

Click on the years for photos from previous rides. (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013)

Plan to arrive at the Verona Park and Ride by 8:00 AM.  We will push-off promptly at 8:30 AM.

If you will be riding to our gathering location, please post in your RSVP where you will be starting from and when you will be leaving from your start point so that others may join your group.  Please plan your ride to arrive at the Verona Park and Ride by 8:00 AM, where all our groups will converge for the ride to Riley Tavern.

Trail Pass Information

Note: A Wisconsin state trail pass is required to ride on the Military Ridge State Trail.  There is a self-serve kiosk at the Verona Park and Ride trailhead, where you may purchase a trail pass if needed.

Perfect day! We did 59 miles and I am sunburned, but it was worth it!

Couldn't have gotten a better day, thanks Neil for sticking with me on the 37 mile ride, you were a life saver on all those hills!

I ran the Madison Twilight 10K Run last night and I am sore this morning. No bike ride for me this morning. Have fun! And enjoy the Pancakes too!

I wanted to go, but my truck is down for getting to the other side of town.

I have room on my bike rack. I am coming in from Cambridge WI east of Maddy. Do you live anywhere between there and the ride start? If so, I could possibly pick you up. However, I wanted to do the 60 mile route, so that may not jibe with your plans. I could do the 37 though too, in a pinch, if you are so inclined.

If anyone else bails, does it get opened back up? Can we create an informal "substitute list"? :)

Dangit! I always miss the RSVP deadline. I plan to go if there is still room (looks like Kent below has bailed...so maybe I can sub for him?). Let me know. I can go as Sherry's "guest" if needs be too. Sorry for my penchant for tardiness. Joe Leonard.

I was really looking forward to this, but a schedule conflict has come up, so I've had to cancel...
