New Meetup: Brain Science and Society

Announcing a new Meetup for "With an Open Mind" Discussion Group!

What: Brain Science and Society

When: March 18,[masked]:30 PM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: A powered wheelchair that moves when user thinks a particular word, was demonstrated by American company Ambient.

Researchers from Japan?s ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories have developed new brain analysis technology that can reconstruct the images inside a person?s mind and display them on a computer monitor. Further development of the technology may soon make it possible to view other people?s dreams while they sleep.

A toy due in stores this fall will let you test and hone your Jedi-like abilities. The Force Trainer comes with a headset that uses brain waves to allow players to manipulate a sphere within a clear 10-inch-tall training tower, analogous to Yoda and Luke Skywalker's abilities in the Star Wars films.

The above developments are only a small sampling of the technologies coming out of research on the workings of the brain. Let?s look ahead, not into the distant future, but into the very near future. Do you think it at all likely you will in some way benefit from these emerging technologies? What devices would you like to see developed? How are these emerging technologies likely to affect society as a whole?
