What we're about

We are a 501(c)(19) Nonprofit Veteran Organization that serves, honors, and empowers Women Veterans from all eras and branches of service. We provide opportunities to network, socialize, volunteer, and give back to the Veteran community while bringing public awareness to the specific issues of Women Veterans.

We are a membership organization who welcomes women Veterans and those females still serving on Active Duty, Reserves, and Guard. Our annual dues are $25 a year. This helps us with keeping this meetup account, paying for our P.O. Box, paying for our .org website, and other administrative fees.

We try to hold events for every woman Veteran....from coffees, ladies nights out, and running/walking in 5ks...to volunteering with the Salvation Army, supporting homeless women Veterans, and our newest initiative in providing camaraderie and sisterhood to the forgotten women Veterans in Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.

We are always on the lookout for new, interesting, and fun events. Come out to have fun, socialize, network and meet other women who are like minded and share your experiences.

Olive Orchard Tour, Workshop, & Lunch

Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard

UPDATE: as of 22 Jan... You can pay the day of the event. However, NLT 09 March (Mon), I need final numbers. So make sure that you verify your RSVP NLT 09 March! If you RSVP YES, and don't change it by 09 March, then the Olive Orchard expects you to be there and will prepare you a meal. I also need to know whether you request a vegetarian meal. If you don't comment, then I'll assume that you want the regular meal. --------------------------------------------------------------- Let's go on a local olive orchard tour of Sandy Oaks Olive Orchard in Elmendorf...just south of San Antonio. This is an event we did about 3 or so years ago and had a good time. We will have a Workshop at 10am to begin our time there. This workshop will be identified soon. An example is: making a loaf of olive bread, and you'll be able to take your bread home with you. The cost for the Workshop will be $15. At one of our Membership Meetings, we will vote on the possibility of WVSA paying for the Workshop. The FREE orchard tour starts at 11:30, followed by lunch in their restaurant. They also have a cute gift shop where they have all types of things that they make with olives, olive oil, and even teas that they make with the olive tree leaves. Lunch will be $15 which will be Chicken Puttanesca, which will include a vegetarian option where there won't be chicken in the sauce. I just need to know how many want the vegetarian option. The $15 also includes 2 sides, tea, soda, & water. They have wine on site, but alcohol is an additional cost. ------------------------------------------------------------ Sandy Oaks is located 20 miles south of San Antonio, just off I-37. Take the Hardy Road Exit 120. Turn left and cross over the freeway. Drive about 1/4 mile to the next street and turn left. Follow the road another 1/4 mile to an iron gate on the left, with the ranch name over it. Here is their website: https://www.sandyoaks.com/ They also have a Facebook page you can check out.

Salvation Army - Volunteer Event

The Salvation Army

Let's volunteer at the Salvation Army to distribute food in order to feed the hungry of San Antonio. It will be on our calendar every 3rd Friday of the month. Again, this will take place on a Friday. It is a week day. During Food Distribution, the SA Food Bank fights hunger by distributing bags of groceries to those in need. During each event, the Salvation Army serves anywhere between 100 to 300 families. Come help our cause and truly make a difference in our community. Volunteer's assist by: - Interacting with those waiting in line for our service - Transporting groceries to their vehicles - Packing groceries for distribution This is a family friendly event. However, you must be at least 15 years old to volunteer for this event. A pre-orientation is not required to volunteer. When you arrive, sign-in on the far left side of the building where you see people lining up. Then introduce yourselves to each other and just wait for the person-in-charge to come out and brief everyone. He/She will explain the process - what he/she needs from us and where they need the most help. Dress Code: Wear comfortable clothing, shoes and a pair of light gloves. We will be working outside and a couple of areas require walking fast (just a couple). Take and Post pictures if you can AND have fun!
