Hey Coders,

On this monthly meetup we have a 30 min - 1 hour technical talk followed by time for studying and networking. You are welcome to work on anything you would like in our friendly and helpful environment. Coders of all abilities are welcome!

This month we are exited to have indie game designer Adam Saltsman (@adamatomic), present on Systems Theory:

Perspectives on systems theory and design, through the lens of architect Christopher Alexander. An introduction to Alexander's approach to designing robust systems, what is interesting about systems that are NOT robust, and an exploration of what he counter-intuitively refers to as "patterns" and how they can be useful. This talk is intended as an interesting starting point in systems thinking, and will not contain any magical solutions or frameworks!

Adam entered the game industry in 2006 as a freelance 3D modeler and computer programmer before working as a designer, programmer, and artist. He cofounded Semi Secret Software in 2008, and released his first notable independent game, Canabalt, in 2009. Since then Adam has had the good fortune of contributing to games like Hundreds, FEZ, A͈L͈P͈H͈A͈B͈E͈T͈ and Capsule. Adam is currently running a new indie game company called Finji with his wife Rebekah in Austin, TX, where he lives with his two crazy kids.

After Adam's presentation, we will have study/networking time. Bring your projects and questions. If you are a beginner, we can help you get started. If you're an intermediate programmer looking for a challenge, we can help you find problems to work on.

This event is intended to be exclusively open for people who identify as female.
