JavaScript Study Group --Denver

Elyse will be hosting a Denver JavaScript study group! Whether you are a complete beginner interested in web development or an expert looking for a collaborative working environment, this study group looks to help all skill levels learn and explore JavaScript. Simply bring your computer and optionally a project to work on. If you are brand new we’ll help you get started with tutorials and online resources.

This is a self-directed session where you can work through your latest project, tutorial, or book. Bring your current project and work on it, collaborate, or get some help! We can help you get started with the resources you need at any level.

Newbies are welcome!: If you're brand-spakin-new, just show up and we'll get you started with free resources. :) This will be an inclusive work session where we can spend some time upgrading our own skills and helping each other build theirs. From experts to beginners, all are welcome.

If there is interest, Elyse will be doing a short presentation on user interaction that will go over how to add interaction using vanilla JavaScript as well as using jQuery. The JavaScript study group will be hosted at RealEyes Media:

RealEyes Media's Address:

940 Logan St, Denver, CO 80203 - Street parking

Food: RealEyes Media is sponsoring snacks for the event!

Please Note: Our members self-identify as female. We emphatically support transgender attendees and are queer-friendly.

    Hi!
Will there be another meetup focused on JavaScript? I planned to make it to this one, but I had to stay later at work. The only upcoming meetups I see are for Java and Ruby.

      Hi,
Yes we will be having another study group the third Monday in May. Look for the event to get scheduled soon! Additionally, the plan is to continue on the third Monday of each month.
      Thanks,

i loved this event, thank you so very much! I feel like it would have taken me months on my own to gain all that info you all so generously shared in a couple hours. Gonna do some homework over the next month and can't wait to meetup again in May! Cheers! Adrienne

Thanks Elyse for hosting this meetup! Great to see so many people interested in code. I want to encourage everyone who attended to keep it up! Anyone can do it - with patience and persistence :) And there's always time to jump in. Another cool website with code examples with some neat things to to on the web is http://codepen.io/ all the best,

Thanks for the encouragement Brittany. Your passion for the industry and excitement to learn and teach code is contagious! Thanks to you and everyone who shared ideas-- I left the meetup with renewed joy about webdev :)

I won't be able to make it today after all; working late. I hope to be able to attend the next one.

Is there a good place to park? I see on the same block there is a little parking area - but is says assigned.

    • Elyse

Your best bet is street parking. You can usually find parking within a few blocks of the office.

      Hi Frank,

It's great your kids are interested in programming! This study group is mostly self directed and may not be a good fit for kids, however they are more then welcome to try it out with a guardian. If you are looking for some other options there are really great programs and workshops, in the Denver area, you might want to check out listed on the code.org site https://code.org/learn...#

You may also want to check out some other resources like:
      https://codecombat.com...
      http://www.codecademy...
      http://learn.org/

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks,
      Elyse

I just joined but is there a plan to set one of these up in Boulder? I'm not a big city person and live north of Boulder so Denver is still a bit of a drive for me. Thanks!

Hi Kelsey - There is actually a JavaScript Study Group that meets in Boulder. Keep an eye out for it to get scheduled soon. You are totally welcome at the Denver Study Group though!
