We are super lucky that Shelby Switzer is giving this speech in Boulder too!

It seems like everyone has a REST API these days, but there isn’t a lot of consensus on what that entails. Many “REST” APIs appear to have more differences than similarities, and often, REST is used simply as a synonym for HTTP. This talk will be a fun journey through API design from a RESTful perspective, elucidating the more technical & academic points of REST architecture with real-world examples. The audience will leave with a better understanding of the origin, meaning, and implications of REST, along with some general best practices for REST API design.

About Shelby Switzer

Shelby Switzer is a software engineer and veteran nomad who recently settled in Denver, CO. Civic hacking in South Carolina was her first introduction to programming, and she has worked with brigades in Atlanta and Denver since then. She currently builds web services atNotion, where she's passionate about connecting IoT to the real world through the power of beautiful APIs. When not playing around with code, she can be found rafting or enjoying a delicious falafel.

Special announcement

Lisa White is also giving a talk about Streaming APIs! It is going to be a jammed pack event.

Keep your data fresh with streaming APIs

Streaming APIs enable applications to request near-realtime data over a persistent connection, with new data pushed to the client as it becomes available. Come and learn the basics of streaming APIs, common scenarios in which you would use them, and some tidbits about the challenges of developing them.

About Lisa White

Lisa White started making (hilariously awful) websites for her favorite pop stars at the age of 7, and has been interested programming ever since. She loves her job working for Twitter developing streaming APIs for realtime delivery of Twitter data. In her free time, you’ll find her hiking in the mountains, doing yoga, or playing board games with friends. Follow her @elemdoubleu.
