This is a two hour hands-on introductory workshop where you will have an opportunity to develop a simple Android chat app called DROIDTALK using Kotlin! Kotlin was announced earlier this year at Google I/O to be officially supported by Android, an exciting development in the Android space. In the workshop you will learn how to set up a brand new Android project, create a simple UI, communicate with backend services using Kotlin and see the app in action using an emulator or on a real device.
Technical Requirements: Base knowledge of at least one programming language, such as Java
Follow setup instructions at https://github.com/jleu1656/wwc-droidtalk-kotlin-skeleton before the workshop
To bring on the night:
• Laptop + charger
• An Android phone if you have one. We’re targeting Android API 23 (Marshmallow) and above. No worries if you don’t have one, we can just use the emulator.
