#BlackLivesMatter + Justice4Women open mic from the Center for Women Writers

Come out this Sunday to Winston-Salem and Salem University, via Metta Sama and the Center for Women Writers:

The final 2016 event for Center for Women Writers is an annual open mic event that focuses our attention on the topics police brutality against people of color and global violences against women.

These are difficult issues to talk about but our voices are urgently needed. At this event, we will also launch two anthologies published by North Carolina presses: Resisting Arrest: Poems to Stretch the Sky (Jacar Press) and Red Sky | poetry on the global epidemic of violence against women (Sable Books).

If you're interested in reading at the open mic, we ask that you

(1) read a poem (or prose) by a woman/nonbinary/transgender person of color that addresses either of the afternoon's topics &

(2) read a poem (or prose) of your own (or a second published piece by woman/nonbinary/transgender person) that addresses either of the afternoon's topics.

Time at the mic is limited to 5 minutes per participant.

Sign-up for open mic is required. Contact [masked] to sign-up.

Date: Sunday, 4 December
Time: 4:00 PM
