  • Carpooling and carvaning will be arranged from Bend at a later date.
  • We will spend three nights @ Crystal Crane Hot Springs Resort. The stay includes use of the open-air mineral springs pool, showers, community room and a well-stocked communal kitchen. You can reserve a private hot tub, as well. There is a variety of accommodations that include rooms, cabins, a teepee, RV sites and dry-camping.

You are responsible for making your own reservation or arrangements to share with another member. For more info or to make a reservation: www.cranehotsprings.com or call (541) 493-2312. Once you have made your reservation, please post your plans on this site. If you want to share your accommodations please post that as well.

Our stay will coincide with the 2017 Harney County Migratory Bird Festival & Wildlife Art Show & Sale. The festival occurs at the height of the spring sandhill crane, waterfowl and shorebirds migration along the Pacific Flyway. The featured speaker will be author and photographer Noah Strycker. We can plan to spend Saturday taking in the festival and learning about the migratory birds that flock to the area every spring.

Sunday will be spent traveling the High Desert Discovery Scenic Byway. It is a 127 miles of roads surrounded by juniper& sagebrush. This sparsely populated region takes you through true frontier country, past the dramatic mountain ranges of the Steens Mountains and the wide-open spaces of the Alvord Desert. We will visit the Peter French Round Barn, Diamond Crater, the town of Frenchglen, the Kiger Wild Mustang Plateau, and the Malheau Wildlife Refuge. For more info on the byway: www.visiteasternoregon.com/explore/scenic-byways/

There will be a planning meeting prior to this trip to discuss meal sharing and carpooling. Your well-managed dogs are welcome. You don't have to have a dog to attend but you should be "dog-tolerant".

I URGE YOU TO MAKE YOUR ARRANGEMENTS EARLY. SPRING IS A GREAT TIME TO BE ON THE HIGH DESERT. BOTH BIRDS AND PEOPLE FLOCK TO THIS AREA IN THE SPRING!!!

I just called and the reservation choices were very limited. I ended up booking cabin #4 at the Sage Inn, 1 queen bed, $45.00 a night. Martina, did you already book something? I would prefer to share with someone. Thanks.
