6 Steps To Help You Realise Success

Hello Wonderful Women of Purpose & Power,

One thing Ive learned in life is that how we begin each day sets a tone for how the rest of the day will go. So my question to you is are you setting yourself up for success, joy and peace or for distraction, anxiety and fatigue?

Every morning I start my day off with cardio and a few powerful words to position me in the right mindset for being the person that I want to be in the world.  Sometimes this looks like listening to a sermon or inspirational talk, other times a book or podcast while at the gym. Today, I listened to a short excerpt from Earl Nightingale where he spoke on mindset and attitude. During this clip, he quoted a notable medical doctor, Dr. David Harold Fink, highlighting 6 steps to help you realise success.  These steps were so relevant to what Ive noted as supports in my own journey that I wanted to share them all with you.  The 6 steps he outlines are as follows:

  1. Set yourself a definite goal.
  2. Quit running yourself down.
  3. Stop thinking of all the reasons you cannot be successful and instead think of all the reasons you can.
  4. Trace your attitudes back through your childhood and try to discover where you first got the idea you couldn’t be successful, if thats the way you’ve been thinking.
  5. Change the image you have of yourself by writing out a description of the person you want to be.
  6. Act the part of the successful person you have decided to become.

I encourage you to re-read these 6 steps once again but this time state them aloud. There’s something about hearing words from your mind to your ears and back to your mind again that creates more weight than simply letting them be a whispered thought. Once you’ve said them a couple times aloud, ask yourself what each would look like, in practice. Don’t worry if you’re stumped at where to even begin, simply go through the questions below to help you process each one of the steps.

  1. What one goal might you set for yourself?   Remember to set SMART goals.  If you’d like support in this, you can click here to have a FREE Goal Setting Worksheet sent to you.
  2. In what ways are your currently running yourself down?  Once you’ve identified behaviours that are not in support of you being your best version of self, you can slowly begin to cut them out.
  3. What’s one reason you CAN be successful?  For the next week, I want you to keep saying that one reason to yourself again and again. Make it a mantra that you say in the morning, afternoon and before you go to bed.
  4. What’s one reason why you doubt yourself?  Once you have that reason, interrogate it. Ask, where that specific message/ belief/ thought came from and if you truly believe it. There are no genes for positive mindsets or abundance based thinking, it’s simply not something any of us are either born with or without. Mindsets are created. The sooner you can identify where your beliefs are coming from, the sooner you can begin to change them.
  5. This one is pretty straight forward. Who do you want to be? Whats your vision for yourself?  Write or draw it out in as much detail as possible — think BIG, as if nothing were impossible or off limits.
  6. What's one thing "that person" ( the person you hope to become) would do differently than you do now?  Once you have it, go do it! Practice moves a thought to reality.

I know some of you may be thinking, “sure, easier said then done” and I hear you — it certainly is easier said then done but no-one ever got anywhere without beginning! So begin today by simply taking action on one of these. If you do, I promise you, you’ll be better off than when you started.

As you do the work to implement these 6 steps in your life, you will be confronted with doubt, challenge and confusion. Sadly this is where most people get stuck and give up.  However I’m here to remind you that you’re not alone.
