What we're about

IMPORTANT NOTE: Going forward this group will run on a facebook group and will meet at a local bookstore in Winnetka. THIS GROUP’S MEETUP.COM PAGE WILL BE SHUT DOWN SOON! IF YOU’D LIKE TO STAY IN THIS GROUP (and I hope you do!) FIND THE FOLLOWING FACEBOOK GROUP: "Northshore Page Turners Bookclub (a not too serious book group)" and request to join – you will be approved very quickly and will be able to see the events coming up.

For those who don't usually use FB, I recommend you create a "dummy" account on FB that you use exclusively for the book club (you don't have to "friend" anyone to have a dummy page or to be in the FB group bookclub page). You don't need to use your real full name or your pic (you can make up a different name or use an abbreviated version of your name). Going forward, updates on the book club will only be on the FB group page.

We are a fun, accepting, respectful group who enjoy reading & meeting new people. We are not genre-specific so we end up with a great variety of books* (only restriction is no religion books). We all are involved in the process of deciding which books to read. Your opinion matters! : )

We are focused on having monthly book discussions, but we don't take ourselves too seriously! : ) If you didn't get to finishing the book that's ok! You're still welcome to come to the meetup and join the discussion, just know there will be "spoilers" as the book will be talked about. The books we read are voted on in-person at the book discussion meetups 2 months out. (example: At the March meetup, we vote on the May book).

*we read books on all sorts of subjects and sometimes it’s tough topics and there may not be trigger warnings. We respect and remain sensitive to each member’s life experiences and perspectives. You don’t ever need to contribute to a discussion or share your opinion on a subject. Group members are held to a high standard of respect for each other’s privacy and personal experiences. While this has never been an issue in the past, there are measures in place to enforce this if it ever comes up. Please communicate any concerns to the Organizer. This is a safe supportive space!

IMPORTANT: No-shows and last-minute RSVP changes are *not* fun (and terribly difficult to plan around). Please be courteous and keep your RSVP updated.

**There is no fee to be in this group - Organizer covers the meetup cost as a courtesy to the members. Organizer makes no profit from this group and takes no sponsors or promotions from Authors or publishers. (We all vote in the books, so sending a private message with your new book coming out will not help). : ) This is simply a passion project.

-When we meet at a restaurant/bar, or at a person's home, members may partake in drinking alcoholic beverages (usually byob at a person's home) - This is not only acceptable, but has also not been a problem. That said, if being around people drinking alcoholic beverages is not comfortable for you, please consider this before joining the group/attending a meetup.

-Organizer reserves the right to remove members who do not honor the policies on this page or who become inappropriate, unpleasant, disrespectful, or are a detriment to the experience of other members in this group. We are all here to meet new people, discover new books, be open-minded, have interesting discussions, and respect each member's opinion. This is an accepting non-offensive environment.

Any questions regarding this group or policies can be directed to the Organizer of the group.

**If you are a member of this group, you agree to the policies shown on this page**
