What we're about
We are a fun, accepting, respectful group of women who enjoy reading & meeting new people. We are not genre-specific or genre-limiting and we do get a good variety of books. We all are involved in the process of deciding which books to read. Your opinion matters! : )
We typically meet in/near Niles or Skokie in a restaurant/bar. We are focused on having monthly book discussions, but we don't take ourselves too seriously! : ) If you didn't get to reading/finishing the book - that's ok! You're still welcome to come to the meetup and join the discussion, just know there will be "spoilers" as the book will be talked about. We rotate the day of the week we meet each month for the book discussion M-Th (so 1 Monday every 4 months, 1 Tuesday every 4 months, etc.)
The books we read are voted on in-person at the book discussion meetups 2 months out. Members make suggestions at the meetups or by messaging the Organizer - Those suggestions are kept on a running list (not genre specific). At the meetup, we put all suggestions in a hat and pull out 5. Those 5 are then voted on by the attendees. This encourages suggestions, planning, and attendance! : ) (example: At the March meetup, we vote on the May book). You can add suggestions any time, but please note that any suggestions made the *day of* the meetup will be on the list for the following meetup (so I have time to prepare the list for the event).
IMPORTANT: No-shows and last-minute RSVP changes are *not* fun (and terribly difficult to plan around). Please be courteous and keep your RSVP updated. Prior approval from the Organizer is required before inviting non-members. Failure to follow this will result in removal from the group.
-When we meet at a restaurant/bar, or at a person's home, members may partake in drinking alcoholic beverages (usually byob at a person's home) - This is not only acceptable, but has not been a problem. That said, if being around people drinking alcoholic beverages is not comfortable for you, please consider this before joining the group/attending a meetup.
-Organizer reserves the right to remove members who do not honor the policies on this page or who become inappropriate, unpleasant, disrespectful, or are a detriment to the experience of other members in this group. We are all here to meet new people, discover new books, be open-minded, have interesting discussions, and respect each member's opinion. This is an accepting non-offensive environment.
Any questions regarding this group or policies can be directed to the Organizer of the group.
