Hi friends! Not only am I looking for some keto friends (eating and/or living keto is not required to join this group however), but I have long had interest in an accountability partner at times along my health journey in any number of areas for health. I am starting this community to build a resource for us all to tap into for finding support in accountability outside of Facebook, closed groups that are costly, and doctor's office's. I'm sure we can make this a lot of fun too! Why not navigate eating, learning to cook differently, sharing recipes, sharing knowledge, and trying new things that may be uncomfortable or daunting in an atmosphere of support and sisterhood? Lastly, I hope you will come to this community to practice pointing to progress and celebrating your successes!

I want to underline that the approach to keto I intend this group to be encouraging is not with weight-loss or fat loss goals as the focal point. Rather I intend this group to foster a culture of body acceptance and support in helping each other achieve our goals; if fat-loss should be a goal in your wellness journey, that's your decision. I wish to investigate and work toward keto as a long term life style and support others take whichever ideas from the keto landscape they choose.

Sauvie Island, Warrior Rock Lighthouse Trailhead

Let's talk about how to eat in the Ketogenic fashion when we're on the run and away from traditional heating and cooling capabilities. For me this equates to meetings outside of my office, plane travel, road trips, visiting friends/family who eat differently, hiking, biking, and kayaking day trips. Keto can be challenging enough with the aid of a full kitchen so how do we make sure we make good choice and stick to our dietary goals when we are away from home and the office? What can we eat with little to no refrigeration and when we have to carry all food and hydration needs? How do we plan for several days away from home when you can't or don't want to cook every day? How can we be successful without blowing our monthly food budget on prepared food? Over the month of September I will send out my favorite recipes for on the go Keto meals and snacks and I encourage all of you to message me with your ideas so that I can share them with the whole group. Get together: Let's put our ideas into practice with a lovely walk on Sauvie's Island on September 21 at 11:30 am. The walk is 6 miles total, out and back route, with 66 feet of elevation gain. Halfway through we will stop at Warrior Rock Lighthouse Beach for lunch and a sharing of what we've learned about on the go eating, then walk back to our cars. It's a nice hike which follows the Columbia River. It's flat and easy and EVERYONE is welcome no matter your fitness level. This isn't a competition. You are responsible for you, so you are required to bring food, water, sturdy closed-toe shoes and anything specific to you, you know you will need. I would recommend a pack, poles, sunscreen, layers, a hat, a waterproof windbreaker/jacket, swimsuit and towel. This is a great place so swim if anyone wants to dip in during our lunch break. Please let me know if you can help drive and which part of the city you are coming from. Every car will be independently responsible for paying the parking fee so please bring some cash to help your driver pay for the car you are riding in. Anyone wishing to buy parking passes ahead of time can do so at the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife website, or in person on the island at the mini mart just after the bridge. (The Cracker Barrel Store – 15005 N. W. Sauvie Island Road.)
