Set in 1853, this novel centers around Emma, from a slave-holding family in Georgia and Henry, a former Texas Ranger and now a missionary. Newly married, they leave for West Africa and this is where their faith and trust are tested at every turn. Author Marjorie Hudson says, “This novel turns Emma’s life on its head, letting in the light of a different sun, a brighter sun. Beautifully written, compassionate, and accurate, the novel draws on historical research into the life of a missionary woman and the author's heart-home in Africa, where she was raised, a young white American, among Yoruba people. A truly satisfying tale in a morally complex world.”

Join us on the last Friday of every month from 10:00 am to 12:00pm at Center for Excellence, 3803-B Computer Drive, Suite 106, Raleigh, NC 27609. It is just south of 440 off of Six Forks Road.

Many of us read fiction like writers, so this group is especially attuned to aspiring writers who want to know more about the craft of writing. The books we chose are all available in paperback and can be found at the library in print or audio.
