What we're about

Woodland Toastmasters (http://woodlandsb.toastmastersclubs.org) is a group dedicated to help people improve their communication and leadership skills. Everyone, regardless of their background or career, could improve their presentation abilities.

Toastmasters International is a worldwide, non-profit organization devoted specifically for that. Woodland Toastmasters is a supportive and fun group open to everyone who would like to get more comfortable speaking in front of a crowd. The Toastmasters philosophy is simple: learn by doing. The club allows members to hone their speaking skills by giving speeches at meetings on any topic of their choice.

In addition to speaking roles, members may serve as masters-of-ceremony ("Toastmaster") or as other peripheral roles. In short, everyone is given a chance to speak as much as possible. Most of our meetings have about 15-20 attendees (Most of the attendees are regular members of the club, but not listed on meetup). Guests are always welcome at our meetings, you don't need to ask permission. There is no fee to visit, and no obligation to join or give a speech.

Simply stop by to get a feel for what is going on. Our meetings take place every Tuesday between 6:15 PM and 7:45 PM in the Balboa Building's basement auditorium (Downtown, @ 735 State Street). Please note that the front doors to the Balboa Building automatically lock at 6PM. We can only attend the front door until 6:15, so please be prompt.

Just behind fear of death is the fear of public speaking! Well don't be afraid. Our club has had over 50 years of experience in providing a warm, welcoming meeting for people just like you, who's looking to improve their public speaking and leadership skills. Run efficient meetings. Every week one club member fulfills the role of Toastmaster. The Toastmaster acts as the emcee for the night to ensure the meeting runs smoothly and on time. Become a better listener. If you want to become a better communicator, learn how to listen. Each week our speakers are evaluated on their performance. Give effective feedback. Toastmasters promotes the “Sandwich approach” to feedback – positive feedback – room for improvement – positive feedback. Consistent Speaking Practice. Many people tell me they joined Toastmasters for a period of time and got what they needed. Networking. Although not officially a networking group in the traditional sense of the word, Toastmasters offers wonderful networking opportunities with like-minded people. We meet every Tuesday from 6:15 PM to 7:40 PM, and visitors are always welcome without an invitation. Visit our website (http://woodlandsb.toastmastersclubs.org) for more details.
