What we're about

Anything to do with web development for client and server side is what this group is about.

This is a meetup for all the Woodlands, Spring and North Houston Area developers who are professionals, hobbyists and newbies. Not to worry, anyone from anywhere is welcome. No pets allowed since they don't know how to code and space is limited.

JavaScript is taking over the world. Moreover, its based on C which has, in fact, taken over the world. JavaScript is used on the web for front and back end development, for the IOT, and more. Since it's ubiquitous, I think we should focus on JavaScript and all its 'derivatives' like Node.js, Angular, React Three.js, TensorFlow and so on.

However, other languages are critical for web dev. Some more than others depending on what you're doing. We can't forget about PHP, LAMP stack dev, Python, CSS, SASS/LESS, MySql/Postgres/MongoDB.

Additionally, it is important to understand testing, linting, development environments, GIT, mobile first development, serverless dev, AWS, Heroku, digital assets, various CMS, optimization of site, site reliability, security, deployment methods, architecture, algorithms, data structures, Big O notation, etc.

Primarily, I would like this to be about learning new skills or refreshing old skills related to web development.

Perhaps we can have some workshops on learning JavaScript (basic skills) and have fellow members give presentations on any interests they have in web development. I think one topic per meeting is great. This can be a great place to share information on resources as well.

UPDATE:

Each meetup will have some beginner JavaScript or Python lesson (for new people and as a refresher for advanced people), then we'll have an advanced lesson (to show the new people what's in store for them and to keep the advanced people interested). After those lesson presentations, we'll have a presentation of some new topic in web development. Bring laptops to participate!

Recruiters may attend as long as they are not too intrusive or aggressive!

I welcome ideas from others on topics we should meet up for.

UPDATE: 1/23/2020

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, PLEASE MESSAGE ME IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN DOING A PRESENTATION.

*** Giving a presentation would be a great way to give back to your community, and looks great on your resume and bios! ***
