What we're about

Private Membership:

* working Board to be nominated at first Meet Up

Limited to Woolsey Fire evacuees, First Responders and other support agencies, Donor businesses, and nonprofit / charity staff and volunteers directly involved in supporting evacuees. You can be a homeowner, renter, or “off-grid” as long as you can show proof you evacuated due to the fire, or worked in a support capacity or business donorship.

Professional Networking only: This means establish a relationship first. Do not leave a “stack of cards” or randomly hand out your stack of cards to any or everyone or a group of people without being asked for your card.

Please no MLM soliciting or “real estate or investment seminar” soliciting. You will Be asked to leave it you do.

WHAT WE DO:

Format: Meetings with professional guest speakers and fun events as well as entertainment outings (concerts, theatre, ticketed events).

Meetings may be for coffee or a meal and be formally run (Parliamentary procedure) or “town hall” Q and A for a speaker or panel.

The goal is to keep fielding your questions that are likely common to many of us and cut through red tape when needed.

Lobbying: As your Organizer, am a Healthcare Lobbyist and my existing focus is supporting adult children who are caregivers to aging parents with health issues. Crisis Coaching helps stabilize careers or jobs and financial assets to avoid a domino effect of a wipe out. We also help businesses create a stable plan so to not suffer a severe blow to bottom line revenue due to loss of staff.

My goal having learned so much evacuating now with two fires (Thomas and now Woolsey) is to help put a massive spotlight at county / city, state and federal level on the “bog of excessive paperwork” and fog from lack of transparency.” The breakdown in communications between agencies, charities and other support groups was less in Ventura County and horrible, I think, in LA County to Greater LA City. The finger pointing / buck passing to each other and back to a federal decision maker was shockingly far too frequent.

Support Service: Emotional group support for each other to focus on future success getting back on our feet, vs focusing on past. Compassionate understanding for each other when tears do fall.

We will also have professional grief and depression workers come as speakers.

OTHER SPEAKERS:

Education: Professional speakers on: legal, insurance, navigating healthcare, government benefits, dealing with bureaucratic red tape, interim housing options, real estate and repair loan options, dealing with bank or mortgage lenders, options when your credit “sucks,” affect on estate planning and trusts, coping with grief, support for out of area owners.

Separately - if you are a caregiver or case manager for a parent with disabilities and need more support, Crisis Coaching can help you.

FUN STUFF:

As a group if there’s interest I can arrange group tickets for live events and ticketed events. (Most likely, there still will be a fee for the event; I’m not charging anything.)

MEETING NOTE: Structured meetings (vs outside entertainment) are intended to be “media free events.”

While we can’t guarantee no media will ever slip in, we want you to feel what you share can safely stay within the walls of the meeting event. Please only take photos at the entertainment outings or in a lobby. (With this said some speakers may want some photography or video shot of him / her on stage. This will be limited and may show the back of your head only in order to protect your privacy. )

Upcoming events (5+)

Woolsey Strong

TBD

Initial meeting. Discussion to set format and nominate a Board. This group is for Advocacy and support, as well as getting to know other survivors. We have an opportunity to lobby for change to create a more streamlined Crisis support system, better communication between governments, agencies and nonprofits and outward to residents. Create more transparency and less paperwork. We need answers now, not vagueness, on answers which should have been known for years.
