What we're about
Are you stuck in a "reading rut?" Do you tend to gravitate towards the same types of books, but would love to branch out? Let's discover new books together! We will read books set in international places, or with international themes. For the full immersive experience, we might even get together and try cuisine from the country in question. All ages are welcome - the only requirement is a love of books!
There are only two rules:
Please, please keep your RSVP updated! If you know that you are not going to be able to attend, take a moment and change your RSVP status to "no." We might be holding events at smaller venues, or need a reservation for a certain number of people, and not having an accurate number actually hurts the group. Plus, it's just common courtesy so people know not to expect you. To this end, if you RSVP "yes," and do not message me to let me know you will not be coming, you WILL be marked as a "no-show." If you receive two "no-shows" in a three-month period, you will be removed from the group.
2. Inactive members
Members who have not been to a meetup in four months will be removed. Feel free to join again if you are actually willing to participate.
New Policy (effective 8/7/2016): New members are placed on a trial period of sixty days. After this time, if you still wish to be a member, you must pay $5 dues (this will be good for an entire year); if you do not pay, you will be removed from the group. Payment can be made in person to the Organizer (me) or on the website through the "chip in" button (although I think that charges fees).
Our current guidelines:
• We will try to meet about every four weeks to discuss our latest read.
• After our book discussion, we will bring out our suggestions for the next book to read (and restaurant to visit!)
• Even if you haven't read the entire book, you can still join us! There isn't a test or anything.
